You have a fucking diamond right there..

Those MX518's lasted me like 5-7 years till they would start double/ triple clicking.

Then Logitech came out with newer shittier mice that would start that very thing just after warranty expires so every middle click would open 3 tabs.. every click would shoot 3 bullets instead of one.

Lately I've been using a Steel Series.. reminds me of the original logitech that would last at least half a decade.

The wife uses Enermax trackballs.. she also likes them over the newer Logitech.

I have been tempted to replace my mouse with a newer Logitech, so it's good to know they should be avoided now. I do get some double-clicks, but it's very rare and I never notice it when I'm gaming (which I sadly don't do much of anymore.) I guess if my mouse ever gets that bad, I could probably just replace the switches.

I have an old weighted G5 I still use and love. I bought a G502 Hero a couple of years ago to try to up my FPS game, but it's glitchy with its tracking and I keep bumping the extra buttons, so went back to the G5 and will probably keep using it until one of us dies.

A Panasonic Lumix FZ35. View attachment 121791

A neighbor was selling her and offered to part with it for $20. Has a case, battery, small tripod, she even threw in a Samsung Evo 34GB card.

It does has a good optical zoom feature which my Pixel 6 lacks. However, it is not small enough to let me put it into my pocket like my phone.

I been debating to bring it or not as its kind of bulky to carry around... Decision, decision.
You could always get a small 1-5L crossbody bag to make it easier to carry when you want to go somewhere you might use it. And those bags have other benefits like getting crap out of pockets or being able to hold extra stuff as you're out and about without being backpack sized.

Solar panel's still on the porch cause it's wet. Aside from hot water, I think I could run my whole house off of this. Get an extra as a spare when the sun's AWOL. If we get to Mad Max stage, I could build a wood fired boiler for hot water. All I really need is power to the fridge. All my other power use is fairly trivial. Washing machine is a big user, but I could save laundry when there's lots of sun, or hand wash.

Interesting to contemplate.

RedDelicious are fucking awful. Terrible flavor, terrible texture, and a bitter skin that's thick like leather. The only good use of those trees is firewood. If I owned a grocery, they wouldn't be sold there.
There seems to be an endless variety of apples. I generally these days buy the cheapest organic ones at Costco which lately has been Gala at around $1.50/lb. They are OK. I'd prefer Honeycrisp but lately they've been almost 2x the cost. I keep any apple not organic at arm's length.

So that's basically a big battery? Not much good if AC disappears for a couple weeks (EQ country here). I'm also very frugal with watts, it's my fridge I don't want to warm up that's the biggest concern.

I could install solar, have a roof well suited for it. Enough to support the fridge would almost suffice. Could have battery backup to that. Danger would be the solar not operational after a quake. Been thinking about a gasoline powered generator for years.

I ordered the Complete Digital Doonesbury a few days ago for $25.52, the price has dropped a couple bucks since then:

Wire bound book plus a USB drive with the data. I don't know if I can hack the drive and copy data to my systems and get it to run off data on my PC or NAS, will try (it comes with a .bat file to run it). Otherwise, run off the stick. I suppose it lacks the auxiliary work Trudeau's done over the years including Trump roasts. My library has some of those.

Yea, a big battery with several power output options. I can live without ac. I go without longer than anyone else around here due to my tree cover. Things stay cool(ish). I wouldn't be happy about it, but in MadMax land, comfort would be the least of my concerns.

There's a few problems with my fantasy. I'm still relying on distributed natural gas(I can replace with wood), and distributed water(Much harder problem!). With a complete breakdown of society, water would be tricky. I'm in walking distance of some water, but it's not a comfortable walk hauling 5G buckets of water, and that's lame. I could pay someone(with what??) to drill a well, but that would increase the power requirements substantially. Maybe install a hand pump well. Sucks, but it's better than carrying buckets of water.

Water is my Achilles heal in an earthquake. I have lots of stuff stockpiled. Electricity would be an issue. Fridge meltdown, no lights, but I have lots of flashlights. I keep enough water around to last a while. Buckets but no known source of water! I buy gallons of bottled water from the supermarket, have them around, some in house, garage, even some in the car. Biggest concern is my house might collapse.

Do you use a pad with a raised bubble thingy to support your tendons?

View attachment 121781

Mine is double that height. Prevents fatigue.
I love my wrist and arm rests! I like a big mouse pad, for gaming but just also in general. I always have wrist rests and I have added arm wrests as well starting about 5-6 years ago. Those make a huge difference too.

This is my setup now.

I’ve been using the R10v4 for years. It’s a great camera. It’s the first camera that’s worked for me to get birds in flight photos. When it came out, it had the fastest autofocus of any camera on the market. At the wide end, it will focus on objects touching the lens. I paid for it through postcard sales.

I set up the custom button on the lens barrel to instantly switch to “birds in flight” mode so no matter what else I am doing, I can react quickly.

In hindsight I probably should have done something like that for my portable solar setup. The one I built must weigh like 200lbs. It's definitely not very portable anymore lol. Can wheel it around but it's hard to get it in or out of the truck or even just up a small ledge like a door threshold. I could probably shave off lot of weight by replacing the AGM battery with a Lithium one though.

Our new patio furniture and outdoor rug was delivered yesterday and since I have a rare Sunday off in April I spent the morning unpacking it and setting it up. We went with the SunVilla Vineyard 6-piece set from Costco. It's a nice set but I'm not sure about the darker color. IME darker colors show dirt better......I really like the way the color of the rug accents the furniture......anyway.

I know the end tables don't match....they were from the last set but we are going to reuse them.

My 3.5T jack doesn't lift anymore. I am too lazy to hunt down seal kit and replace the seals so picked up a 4T jack.

Someone made fun of me for getting under my suv with a 3T jack stand in the I'm wrenching thread.. so I bought some 6T jack stands at a sale last november.

I have to say they do look safer when under the car and the 3T ones didn't inspire confidence!

Just gotta sell that 3T ones off sometime.

And I did pick up a 3T long reach jack as well.. it's fine for me! Hopefully lasts a good while.

Hardware store jack stands don't really instill any more confidence than the jacks do. Only use to change tires but I would not trust my life on them.

I eventually want to get an actual car lift once I build my shop on my off grid property, would be nice to be setup to do work on my own vehicle and maybe even get a project car. My current garage is way too small for that.
