But i would buy an EV sooner, if an EV would just be like a current standard ICE vehicle but with the ICE swapped for an electrical drivetrain.
They make those. Check out the Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro for starters. Since you can't plug in easily look at their hybrid versions.

No fancy stuff, no self driving, no cameras everwhere. No lidar. Just a normal everyday car. Central door locking with a key. Not with a phone, no phone is needed to open or close the door locks.
Only the radio has an optional bluetooth connection.
On the inside, only a normal speed gauge display and a proper smartphone holder for a smarttelephone to be used with Waze or google maps whenever i would choose to do so.
Such a car would go brandnew for 10000 to 15000 euros.
I'd like all of that, but I'm not sure they're doing that in any new car now, of any kind.

i will check those cars out. Thanks for the tip.

That is so sad and bad that it is not more common to have a "basic" EV.
It really helps to keep the price down and durability goes up.

The thing with automotive stuff is that all parts in a car have to fulfill to a very high automotive quality standard and require automotive certification.
And automotive certification (AEC qualified ) standards are high just as the automotive fines are and complete product recall when something goes wrong.
Electronic parts need to adhere to these Quality standards. Like for example AEC-Qxxx qualified Where the xxx can be 100, 101, 200. Like for example there is ISO and IEC standards.

if you do not have it, then there is no need to adhere to the automotive standards.

It is just like with the FAA regulations and aeroplanes.

Small excerpt from text :

"

AEC-Q200 included in AEC standards

What are AEC standards?

Automotive Electronics Council or AEC was set up in the 1990s by three leading automobile manufacturers in the United States and joined by major electronic component manufacturers. The organization is responsible for setting common standards for in-vehicle electronic components including quality standards. Its AEC Component Technical Committee is working on setting standards for reliable electronic components and component certification rules.

AEC standards are international standards for ensuring the reliability of in-vehicle electronic components. Automobile manufacturers will not purchase components that fail to meet the requirements defined in the standards. AEC standards provide various types of standards applied to different types of electronic components. Among them is AEC-Q200 which applies to passive components. Passive components refer to components that consume, store, or release supplied power.
  • AEC-Q100: integrated circuits (IC)
  • AEC-Q101: discrete semiconductor products (capacitors, transistors, diodes, etc.)
  • AEC-Q102: discrete optoelectronics semiconductor products (LEDs, etc.)
  • AEC-Q103: vehicular sensors
  • AEC-Q104: multichip modules (containing multiple chip pairs, ICs, etc.)
  • AEC-Q200: passive components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc.)

At a glance, VW's ID.1 is gonna be a stripped-down city car for Europeans. There's no way it can be feature-rich at $22k, and that might be appealing to some buyers.

I imagine China's $15k BEVs are fairly spartan compared to Murica's average new cars, but I could be wrong about that. NYT reported on China's BEVs last year and IIRC, ADAS is a cheap add-on in many cases (this isn't necessarily a good thing, like all the cheap Android-based devices sold over the years with poor software support).

I forgot to mention that, software updates needed for a car. It gets crazier and crazier. But when it can connect to internet and can be hacked...
Too much IoT(Internet of Things) in a car for my taste.

i did not, that's a cool redesign though. i've never considered those because the MPG is too low for my commute
I hear ya. I had a co worker that had one, and I fell in love with it. I like the new gen, but this was the wife's year for a new car. That works out for me because it will give Toyota a year to work out the kinks. After the Cybertruck debacle I'm in no rush.

Bah! I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy this 2017 Ford Fusion with 85K miles on it for $5000.

The wife is gonna drive it until the kid gets his license. Our EV purchase is gonna have to wait until he moves out at 18.

I know right? It was a total distress sale by the current owner.
I don't know what market value is, but congrats! Not worried about karma coming back to bite ya? Wait, is this one ICE or hybrid?

EV sales in the U.S. jumped 10% YoY, but Bloomberg predicts that growth rate will triple over the full year... 🤯

ICE 4cyl. Nope, not worried about karma coming back to bite me. Carfax says it's ~$8000 car.

So...I'm at my local Ford dealership getting an oil change on my F150. Chatting with a salesman...next year, Ford is supposed to release a Ranger version of the Lightning. Price should be around $45k.

That's not bad at all. And if they could get a pure BEV of the maverick at 35k.... I think that having that entire lineup work be really compelling

Another friend and Trooper "Off Road" enthusiast noted that my 'Suzu and Nissan Truck were two of the most solid vehicles built in 1995. They have been restored and maintained. I got a thumbs-up from my friend when I remarked that I'd replaced the HO2 sensor. But we're passing 207,000 miles on the Trooper, sails through smog with stellar scores, and gets the original factory mileage spec. For city driving, I may actually be slightly better off than the owner of a 10-year-old corvette stingray.

I had my eye on a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid -- red -- a red one! -- but couldn't make up my mind to move the money in my accounts to go forward and purchase it for $31,000+. Finally, still interested, I looked again at CARMAX and someone had grabbed it.

Unless we worry about the tariff madness, I shouldn't need a newer vehicle for some time. I'm watching and feeding my nest-egg in the meantime.

Looks very pretty. I hope you enjoy it for years to come. After you put some miles on it let us know some of its quirks and features.

It is here!! Tanzanite Blue with an Oyster interior. Cloudy day so the color does not show today. Had 7 miles on it when we got it. Now we have to set up all the stuff for each of us. This was my wife syncing the BMW app to her phone.
I'm confused, why does she need to sync her phone to your Bimmer?
