Only 31% of Americans want an EV or PHEV. What about you?

Already pulled the trigger on an EV in January. Closing in on 6200 miles(10,000km)and I love every mile so far. I should mention that I didn't purchase it for the environment or potential fuel savings. I did it for the tech and the performance.

Since I never get tired of sharing this pic here's the one I bought!

I do, but I want it in a form factor of a truck that isn't any larger than a Ranger, but would rather it be as small as a Maverick all while not costing $150k (aka Rivian).

Yeah, if Ford sold a hybrid Maverick with a few kWh plug-in batteries for under $35k MSRP (that matters for CO tax incentives), I'd be all over it. I'm still considering a Maverick hybrid (and no other non-plugin), but it's a harder sell especially when they mark them up so much.

I want an all electric dirigible as my daily driver.

Realistically, I could go with an EV for daily driver. To replace the off road capable vehicle is a bit trickier. Electric is better than ICE for low end torque. The question that is being answered right now is how do battery packs hold up to off-road conditions. If the batteries can handle the shocks and vibrations, then I'd love an EV off roader, much quieter.

Currently driving a KIA Niro HEV, and the next time I'll be looking will probably be in 10+ years, so my next vehicle will probably be an EV.

Was considering an EV in 2019, but wouldn't have been able to charge it at home or work at the time.

I would like a BEV for my next vehicle. That's probably 2 years out. There should be a better selection of BEVs by then. I hope loan rates come down by then - I don't think I will want to drop $40k (+/-) in savings all at once. When interest rates on cars were at 0% - it was a no brainer. I may buy a hybrid vehicle if prices are just too high on EVs. I'll just have to see where the market is.

Next vehicle we buy will probably be an EV, but that could be a while from now. Both work from home most of the time, take the train and walk/bike rather than drive often, so gasoline is a very small monthly expense for us. And I have no plans to stop driving my E39.

I am going to buy my wife an e-bike for Christmas, does that count?

We need some Pols to make some big dick moves and lock down standards and regs around charging and what have you.

As a non-EV owner who is sort of peripherally aware of the whole EV thing listening to people talk about the planning that goes into finding a compatible charging place or whatever is a bit eye roll worthy.

Give us a standard, so we can finally get proper charging stations and infrastructure built out, give us some normal looking cars (not this "car of the future" thing that EV's keep trying to do unless you're a Rivian or Tesla) and I'll buy.

Current plan is wife's 2015 Forester will go to our daughter in 4-5 years (assuming its not a pile of rust by then) and wife will get a new Electric. My 2021 Crosstrek will go to the son in ~ 8 years and I'll get the next Electric.

I only hope we've solved this chicken egg crap that EVs and EV infrastructure seems to be perpetually stuck in by then but my hopes aren't high.

Maybe I'll just end up with a Hybrid after all.

I don't think we need the pols to do anything else. The Biden BIL/IRA are already going to subsidize a lot of L2 charging plugs nationally; I actually feel these are already obsolete in charging rate, but it's still a meaningful boost to the infrastructure.

The entire industry has already coalesced around Tesla's NACS plug, so that's happening soon too. The main problem right now is that all the manufacturers wrongly believed they could sell BEVs like luxury cars because that's what Tesla was doing 18 months ago. Now that Tesla has pivoted to a price war, dealers are stuck with inflated prices they can't move.

But I'm an optimist because I think that over time there will be no price premium for an EV over a comparable ICE model. I don't plan on buying a BEV for some time, and I'm highly averse to new car depreciation. So hopefully I'm right and around 2031 there will be a lot of new and used BEV inventory to choose from.

CCS and NACS are already the standard in North America. As far as charging infrastructure and planning trips are concerned the only advice I can give is don't let automotive youtubers and automotive journalists sensationalize the narrative for you. They do it for the clicks.

I recently completed a 1,000 mile(1,600km)round trip from Peoria IL to Cleveland OH and hands down it was one of the most enjoyable road trips I have ever taken.

Did it take a little longer because EVs take longer to "fill up"? Yes it did.
Did I have to take a few extra steps to plan my route because the infrastructure is still in its infancy? Yes I did. By this I mean I added my destination into the vehicles navigation and it planned the route for me with charging stops added. This took around 60 seconds to do.
Did I have any issues with broken or non functioning chargers like the automotive press likes to sensationalize? No I did not.

In concept, I'd love an ev, but I don't want to pay the ev price, and I need a real truck that is off road capable, preferably in a mid size form factor.

Which is still completely pointless.

Anyway, ICE for the foreseeable future. Looking to buy a weekend car...hopefully next year. Definitely MT.

Owned a few PHEVs and bought my first, used off lease, BEV last year and I don't see myself going back to combustion. The longest drive I would conceivably do is about 140 miles so not road tripping all over the country in it.

I just bought a Bolt, had it for a week. So far I like it a lot, looking forward to getting my level 2 plug installed. I do a ton of road trips, which will be done in my Forester. I'm going by the time my Forester needs replaced they've come out with at least a decent hybrid Forester.

There is still a long ways to go before an EV "is for everyone". IMHO hybrids are a great compromise with minimal additional cost to produce & massive efficiency benefits.

If I had a second car, yes, I would get electric. But I would still want a gasoline vehicle for longer road trips.

They are fixed gear ratios, a transmission would just make it slower, heavier, and less efficient. Transmissions exist to correct the terrible torque curves of ICE.
I'm pretty sure he was being facetious.......but you are correct. Due to the nature of electric motors they do not require a traditional transmission like ICE vehicles do.

I agree, at this point everything should at least be a hybrid. Toyota seems to slowly be going in this direction.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if he was being serious or not. Just saw something the other day about how some car company was going to add fake shifting feelings to their EV.

There is a case for transmissions though. If one wants high end torque, a transmission could deliver that. For passing, for example.

I just bought a Bolt, had it for a week.
I test-drove a Bolt a few months back. It felt not much different than my peppy but old Focus. I've heard that the Bolt is one of the least peppy EVs and that if you try a better one you'll be spoiled for the Bolt.

I'm going by the time my Forester needs replaced they've come out with at least a decent hybrid Forester.
Subaru had the Crosstrek PHEV, but they're phasing it out.
