So I finished ANDOR and must say the last 4 episodes were excellent and the I watched ROGUE ONE again (something I rarely do is watch something a second time with so much to see these days and so little time) . The series flowed so well into the movie and it made so much more sense this time. Best robot in all of Star Wars but I still am not a fan of Diego Luna. Almost didnt watch Andor because he was the lead. JMHO.

Someone please tell me where Baze got all that ammo for that BFG.

Another stray thought: Why does everyone rave about Forest Whitaker's acting ? Dont get me wrong, I really like the guy and will watch almost anything he is in (like Tom Hardy) but his delivery of lines sometimes eludes me. Maybe that is the draw for most people but what do I know?

he's .. very intense? committed? full of emotion?

i saw him as an underdog growing up and was happy he succeeded. I've liked every role of his that i know of .. i mean, i probably would have liked Emperor Of Ocean Park, if the man was actually in it.
I guess, i just like the way he interprets his characters. I feel that i would have acted the same, if i had been that character. I guess it's a personal thing.

Obviously he settled for lesser pay. Also, they did not expect Rogue One to be a hit I guess. The movie was in such serious trouble that another director needed to be brought in. Glad they did. One of the very rare cases where Disney made the right choice.

@DigDog Do you think the Director's Guild rule of "director's name can only be attached to a movie if he shot 40% of it" has been abused in some movie? Because I don't see how some scummy studio wouldn't pay one director 40% of the pay and get the rest of the movie directed by promising up and coming directors but pay them even less.

1. i did not know this rule existed
2. .. i dont know about this movie specifically. But, directors take responsibility for the film as a whole. And it's VERY common for portion of films to be directed by other people, they are not called director, but they very much do the director's job. A "second unit" is exactly this. So you got the Director director, and the guy who is just a director.

So i would allow someone to take credit for a film even if they were not sitting in the stupid chair. In the end i wouldn't know if they were lying or not, but i take it on faith that someone was in charge of the whole mess, regardless of what ground work they actually did.

..kinda like an executive producer.

We just got back from the new Lilo and Stitch live action movie. I thought it was really good. My kids and wife also really enjoyed it. I don't remember the animated one very much as far as story goes but now want to watch it with the kids to see how it compares.

The Deliverance on Netflix. I'd give it a 7/10. It wasnt bad but could have been much better. Something I noticed about many recent Netflix movies and series in the last 5+ years or so that really bugs me: the unrealistic use of profanity. I mean, yes, in todays society, most people curse/swear etc. I get it. Ive worked in the oilfield and petro-chemical plants, Im quite often guilty of a potty-mouth myself-- but many of these newer shows take the cake. They blow out of the water literally any situation Ive ever witnessed in reality.

Brother to brother: "Fuck you, you fucking fuck-face." Daughter to mom: "Fuck you mom, you fucking bitch-hoe". Mom to daughter: "Shut the fuck up, you stupid fuck c**t bitch".

I mean, who really speaks to people, especially your own family, like this in real life? It was so overblown it literally breaks the sense of immersion in a lot of these. I dont know whats wrong with writers these days where they feel the need to write this kind of unrealistic, over the top dialog to convey ideas. Its pretty sad.

Army Of The Dead - 3.5/10 - (Netflix Original)

First off, I really wanted to watch a Russ Meyer film and no-one offers any of his deep cuts on streaming. So why not watch a brain dead Zombie flick and Army of the Dead comes up.

OK, yeah, so I remember this got some pretty shit reviews 4yrs ago when it dropped, but its a Zombie flick, I'm not expecting much.

First 15-minutes are OK - and gets a 6/10. The opening scene has some Army dudes who are on a super duper high priority ultra important transport mission and thats when the problems begin. The writing is atrocious. These are soldiers and we got "mall cop" lingo and the sense of urgency of a bingo parlor security team.

And it just gets worse and worse and worse with competing plots, gaping holes and story lines that just disappear. The Hollywood tropes that are so beyond lazy that they too all appear. Bad fathers, reunited love. I can handle so bad its good - this was infuriatingly incompetently bad.

And the fuckin worst part was the Chopper pilot played by Tig Notaro. What a over the top shit performance that did not match the tone. Come to find out she was subbed in and full green screened edited in.

I'll be canceling my Netflix once Squid Games Season 2.5 drops as there original programming is so fuckin abysmal.

I thought hers was the best performance in the movie. She made me chuckle a lot which is a rare occurrence for me during a movie. Ella Purnell got featured in pretty nasty memes (at least one I saw myself) about being totally useless in this movie. It was so bad that I think she would've quit acting if she had seen enough of them. Good thing her career picked up good with Fallout. The director purposely went for a campy style I think so it's just a movie meant for people who want to kill some time. Netflix likes commissioning movies of this nature. I guess the number of views for such movies tell them that THAT is what their audience prefers.

Andor Season 2 was a masterpiece, besides just one small 30 second scene. I liked the pacing and buildup of the overall season - it's just a grand universe with great characters and a fantastic lush story - looks gorgeous, well-acted, gritty stuff.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - excellent movie with Gary Oldman and some other well-known names, including a young Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch. Moody noir interpretation of a Le Carre spy novel and it works very well. This and A Most Wanted Man are two excellent spy thriller movies.

Captain America : Brave new world. 5/10

Was an oke movie. Captain America was a bit too much overpowered for a human being compared to the foes he is up against.
If it would have been Steve Rogers, it would make sense with being a super soldier and all.
But this captain America only has his flight suit and his training.

What i also do not understand, is that in the Marvel movie verse, No one has ever heard of aramid fibers like kevlar based clothing or Dyneema Fibers , all fibers used to make protective clothing against for example knife attacks.
Captain America wears absolutely no clothing that can prevent him from being cut with a knife or flying sharp debris. He gets seriously cut in the movie multiple times with a knife or debris.

I know it is fantasy and science fiction but it would be nice if the writers opt that into the stories of movies still to come. A bruise fits much more better than a knife cut.
Ballistic impacts are also reduced to bruises while wearing a suit also made of aramid fibers.

Hey @DigDog I would wager a guess you've seen both Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and also A Most Wanted Man - any preference between the two?

i have TTSS (the new version) queued up, i guess i will throw in Most Wanted as well.

I watched

The Good Lord Bird - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3673480/reference/

Where Ethan Hawke fucking knocks it out of the park as the religious fanatic John Brown, abolitionist and terrorist.

Seven episodes depicting the rather short-lived insurrection campaign of Brown, that ended in his comrades being exterminated, and himself being arrested and hanged.
Brown is not an easy character to like; he was .. well, insane. Drawing on some historical facts, he is depicted as being beyond fanaticism, hearing voices, imagining conversations with god, and being clueless as to how to conduct a military operation. And also very, very much prone to violence.

Essentially a late-era Western, it's all about the costumes, the mannerisms, the sets. Hawke is excellent as Brown, but you gotta accept that this is the revisionist version of what essentially is the story of a psychopath.

I would recommend it. It's not just interesting, but very entertaining.

8/10

The Studio - AppleTV - yeah it's goofy but it's pretty good too. Totally pokes fun at the Hollywood process, and has amazing cameo's with industry players playing right along. Five episodes deep and it's worth it. It won't blow your mind but it's good.

Everything said above and I had to struggle to even give it a 5.

Please, please, please no more angry Harrison Ford. OK when he was red or being calm but over the top screen chewing when trying to be forceful or angry.

Was a bigger fan of Captain America in the comic books than in the movies. Thought maybe it was just my dislike for Chris Evans but Andrew Mackie doesnt help much. Havent cared much for him either since the second season of Altered Carbon.

Shira Hass was interesting but strange but thats OK and Giancarlo Esposito didnt seem anything like his normal self. Just phoned it in.

All this is JMHO.

All this is JMHO.

The movie was a bit over the top, old guys that have the strength and stamina and speed of young athletic men.

Too bad they did not hire the actor( William Hurt) that was General Ross in the incredible Hulk (2008) movie.

The first captain America movie was a pretty good one. Different ambiance.

And a small role in the movie for : "The leader" .
