What evidence is there that Iran is lying? Surely if the case is so ironclad, the United States would be willing to present that information to the rest of the world and build an international coalition to diplomatically confront Iran first, and only use force as an absolute last resort

If they were lying about ending their nuclear weapons program, why don't they have nuclear weapons by now, like North Korea? The mistake they made, it seems, was _not_ lying. Had they done so this current round of conflict would not have started.

This might also be over reporting. The attack in Qatar makes sense. Lob missiles, do little damage and claim you met your targets and leave it at that. Shoot just as many missiles as bombs dropped.

Hopefully that still plays out.

2019 all over again. Iranians want the US to stay out of it but need a symbolic response for domestic purposes. This gives Trump an off ramp if he's interested in taking it. If not then things get a lot more interesting (dangerous) for all involved.
