True tragedy all of the land loss the Palestinians have incurred over generations. But yeah ... this isn't helping the Palestinians. One step forward, two steps back. I don't see how there will ever be genuine lasting peace when so many flavors of hatred run so deep. You can broker a peace deal and have temporary peace there until someone looks at someone else the wrong way then it's on like Donkey Kong all over again.

Except Gandhi/non violence didn't win us freedom, it was the second world war ironically. Of course he was right about (not having) the partition, but the Brits had sown seeds of discourse for decades leading to that outcome! The issue these days is that, much like in the past, people aren't willing to share or concede/listen to the other side. I don't understand the end goal for Israel. You can't repeatedly humiliate people who are you neighbors and not expect animus. This is partially the US's fault as well for allowing it. I hope Russia is understand the type of animosity you seed amongst the families of all the people you kill.

This is a giant failure of Israeli intelligence that is going to need some major explaining. The lack of quick response from Israeli security forces also is a big question.

As for Hamas there is no way they pulled this off themselves. Likely parties trying to derail Israeli normalization with Saudi Arabia and the Saudi-US defense pact heavily supported if not planned this attack. Leading suspects would be Iran and Russia.

Israel has relatively good relations with the Putin regime and has for some time. However at this point Russia's relationship with Iran is likely much more important to them along with Russian interests in derailing a Saudi-US tie up. So between keeping Iran happy and looking after their own interests I could see them making certain choices here.
