If anything North Korea (and Ukraine) proves why having the bomb is a decent idea. Nobody bothers with North Korea, and they do their own thing. Think Russia would've invaded Ukraine if they still had nukes? Probably not. If Iran had a bomb, none of this would've happened. It would be mutually assured destruction.

That's what I don't get about all this - why the desperation to stop Iran having nuclear weapons? The theory of 'deterrence' would say that as Israel aleady has them (and it's protector and patron, the US, has vast numbers of them) then Iran won't start a nuclear war. Either we're admitting deterrence is a flawed idea that can't be relied on, or the point is that this is not about fear of Iran using such weapons, it's about Israel and the West not being able to use them on Iran.

I've seen the photos going around. Maybe they got it, maybe they didn't. I don't consider them conclusive.

Iranians were seen prepping the site for an attack and burying the entrances so they certainly had powered down the cascades. Even if we managed to destroy the centrifuge hall their next major facility (under construction at Natanz) is probably a couple hundred meters deep. Not to mention the probability they have smaller clandestine sites operating their most modern designs. We also have zero idea where their HEU is and how pure they've gone.

A major contributor to Trump’s decision to attack was his dissatisfaction with the fierceness of the military display in the recent parade. He’s been brooding on his unhappiness for days, and that fed into this. “I bombed the Ennemie! I deserve the Noble Peace trophy!”

Trump is stupid. He doesn't understand war. Or the cost of War. Is he personally paying for it? Will Trump die? Will he be charged money for it? No? Then the cost in money and lives is nothing, as far as he’s concerned.

The people who die won’t be Trump therefore by definition their lives are expendable. As far as he’s concerned, at least. Trump is the sole meaning and purpose of the universe, and all things have value only as far as they add to his wealth and glorification. If a billion people died and he made money out of it or felt some momentary pleasure from it, then from his viewpoint that’s an infinite ratio of profit; something, for nothing.

Ultimately I think that the real impact here is that Israel has turned their Iran war into our problem and no longer their problem. They are offloading it to Trump if he knows it or not (he does not). Iranian capacity to harm Israel directly has shrank a lot, their capacity to harm much closer US interests and the energy flow out of the gulf still exists to a greater degree. Total victory for Netanyahu at our expense.

I would be very impressed with Iran if they dont strike back . I hope their mentioning that the US attack did not do much damage is a sign that its unnecessary to retaliate.

Hope they can work something out where they fire at an evacuated US base in Iraq to save face to their ppl. Similar to the sort of arrangement they did with Israel last year after the missile exchanges between them.
