2019 all over again. Iranians want the US to stay out of it but need a symbolic response for domestic purposes. This gives Trump an off ramp if he's interested in taking it. If not then things get a lot more interesting (dangerous) for all involved.
Smarter people giving the silverbacks a chance to scream, beat their chests, and throw rocks around, and nobody (other than an iranian general) gets killed.

Doesn't appear Trump is eager to do anything. Instead he's complaining about TV coverage.

So I guess Israel will keep deleting buildings in Tehran (with no strategy) and the Iranians maybe quietly build the bomb?

Al Udeid airbase was the only target in Irans attack.

Iran said its missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on Iranian nuclear sites this weekend, signaling Iran's likely desire to de-escalate...

israel better pray that Iran doesn't develop something that explodes and releases tons of tiny projectiles that confuse their Dome and then the subsequent missiles go through doing maximum damage.

Yeah, anyone that thinks they hadn't already moved everything that wasn't bolted down (and even some of that) before our GBU57s went boom isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Which is part of the lunacy of going down this path to make sure they don't have nukes. You can almost guarantee that they will have some capability that we have no intel on.

Nailed it... it makes sense if they want to save face at home and not escalate anything. I'm sure even Trump isn't stupid enough to keep it going.

This might also be over reporting. The attack in Qatar makes sense. Lob missiles, do little damage and claim you met your targets and leave it at that. Shoot just as many missiles as bombs dropped.

Hopefully that still plays out.

Confirmation Republicans are in a cult. Early this month only 47% of them favored military intervention against Iran.

Now that Trump has done it, favorability with them is now 68%. What information has changed since June 1? Nothing other than Trump stating he doesn't care what US intelligence says which should have lowered favorability.

I wonder what the issue is. Are Americans too stupid to remember that’s it’s been republicans who have gotten us into wars in the last 50 years or are republicans so good at messaging that they’ve successfully rebranded the Democrat party as the party of war?
More of the former (and very short memories). GOP voters have been choosing against their own self interests for generations now. So that corps and billionaires can just accumulate moar of everyone's wealth.

As an unrelated example, remember a lot of these voters hate Obamacare, but support the ACA. 🤣 The Democratic Party needs to up its game a lot, but quite frankly I don't know how you fix an electorate that has been thoroughly brainwashed by Facebook.

The pending BBB is highly unpopular with the masses, but it will pass in some form anyway. And most of the rubes who vote GOP won't reflect on their errors and realize it's their votes that lead directly to undesired outcomes.

Israel seems to be escalating their strikes vs Iran, esp Tehran. Aside from military targets, they are also targeting civic institutions like police stations, universities and even a prison. Its like they are trying to break down civil order so people will rise up against the regime.

Haven't seen any attacks on Universities.

Specifically, Evin Prison is a notorious place. According to Wikipedia: "The prison serves as the primary site for incarcerating political prisoners, journalists, academics, human rights activists, dual nationals, and foreign citizens accused of espionage or propaganda offenses.

The prison has become internationally known for its systematic human rights abuses. Numerous reports document torture methods such as beatings, electric shocks, mock executions, prolonged solitary confinement, forced confessions, sleep deprivation, and sexual abuse."

It worked so well in Gaza, why not Tehran?

Assuming those missiles land Trump now has his justification for war despite not having it in the initial attack.

Still impeachment worthy.
Justification is a nice to have but only Congress can declare war. Any military action by Trump in the absence of Congressional approval is a violation of the Constitution.

The IDF is keeping to military and regime based targets AFAIK so far. Though those are going to be running short at the rate things are going so either they'll have to shift to other things (like civil infrastructure) or declare victory and go home. Probably option #2.

Whole thing feels like a giant mistake though and will likely propel Iran into testing as soon as they can.

Not that I agree with the airstrikes, but it's cute to keep repeating that. Presidents for decades have ordered military attacks, without Congressional approval. Even if Dems controlled Congress, which they don't, there's almost nothing they can do about it. If Trump is ever dumb enough to put boots in Iran, then maybe he'll ask Congress for its agreement (not for permission).

What they will find out is that people themselves will find a way to screw Israel somehow. And that would allow to take darker measures from Israel.

What I mean, is Israel is currently doing good with taking IRGC down, but if they somehow commit a mistake, all that work goes to waste.

Are you saying any military strike ordered by POTUS needs a congressional Declaration of war or just a Authorization for Use of Military Force?

Congress (and the US by extension) hasn't officially declared war since World War II. The Iraq War, the War on Terror, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and all those other conflicts were never official declarations.
