It's always funny when supposed fans of a traditionally "woke" show complain that the latest episodes are woke.
Grr! The new Star Trek is woke! Grr! Woke X-Men!
Dr Who about ten years ago had a lizard woman - human woman relationship with a dommy dynamic and they weren't particularly subtle about it! The format of most of the episodes is "wouldn't it be nice if dickhead authoritarians stopped doing shitty things", "why is it that every time I come back to the Planet Earth, I find them doing fucking stupid things to harm each other?" and "The Doctor is going to find a solution to this that doesn't involve violence because violence is never the answer"!
Another candidate for people complaining about the latest entry being "woke" I encountered recently was the 'Ghost in the Shell' franchise, traditionally being about an era where humanity can simply buy the prosthetic body they want and the CEO of a Japanese company walks around in this body and a super stereotypical Texan accent:
dude, that link is THE EXPRESS. That's what's relevant, and why i posted it. This time it's so bad that even paper newspapers are attacking it.
"supposed fans" seems to imply that we're not actually fans, you know, those youtubers who has 3-hour videos about idk audiobooks of the Troughton era, naah bro those ARE NOT FAAAAAANS, no "fans" is only what my convenience dictates, if they agree with whatever slop previous viewers are complaining about then yeah, those are "fans".
FYI the big mommy milkers lizardgirl was already a shit character back when Capaldi was doctor, but it was a minor character with not a lot of screen time, fans were more willing to forgive.
.. but, you know, nobody and i mean NOBODY complained about Cpt Jack Harkness back 20 years ago during the Tennant reboot. Do you remember the Red Letter Media part of the first Star Wars Review, where they can't find a way to describe the CHARACTER of Amidala, of Qui Gon, etc ?
Because see, Jack is carefree, Jack is Heroic. He is selfless, he's got enthusiasm, but can get sidetracked because he's very, very horny. He's a mean motherfucker when the chips are down, but he can also be patient, and caring.
This doctor's character traits are .. he's gay, he's VERY gay, and oh yeah he's also fabulous. Did i mention he's gay?
Idk, maybe if you took a franchise like John Wick but decided to force comedy into it, or maybe if Die Hard all the sudden needs more grim violence, people would complain about the writing because the characters are being forced.
"Woke" specifically means BAD. We're nearing South Park levels of the word having no resemblance to what it meant before, because nobody anywere outside of Pink News uses it to signify "people fighting teh oPPression". What they mean is "gay nonsense", with a highlight on the word
nonsense. I mean, you feel the need to interject on sUppoSEd FanS so surely you know who midshipman Alonso is, what special he stars in, (who is the special guest for that show, who is The Doctor for that series, how old the Doctor is in that particular episode, which constellation is Galifrey seated in ?) etc, and there is no mention at all of him being a sexually diverse character, *except* for The Doctor figuring it out just by looking at him mope, and of course we all know what happens next, because we're fans. I'm sure you don't even need to google it to find what pro-LGBT action was written in that episode that took ZERO complaints from "the fans".
