Quite a lot of design wins for essentially a first gen product:

I think Oryon will take a non trivial market share very soon. Impressive that we can pre order on day 1 of release. So many laptops already available from all major OEM. I wish AMD would do something similar. Availability of Hawk Point still sucks several months after release. Qualcomm is going after Intel's laptop market share for sure. That is why we saw the "news" from Intel as well.

i have a few thoughts. First very happy to 16GB RAM as standard.

The OLED is locked to a $1499 SKU, the base model does not receive OLED and it’s not even Tandem OLED. (The upcoming dell has a Tandem OLED)

unless I am mistaken why aren’t the cores and GHz listed on the Buy page?

Other than that not bad for first gen and will wait for third party reviews.

Just spec'd this out at HP

  • Meteor Silver
  • Windows 11 Home
  • Snapdragon® X Elite X1E-78-100 (up to 3.4 GHz, 12 cores) + Snapdragon® X Elite Qualcomm® Adreno™ + 32 GB(onboard)
  • 14" diagonal, 2.2K (2240 x 1400), multitouch-enabled, IPS, edge-to-edge glass, micro-edge, Low Blue Light, 300 nits
  • 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  • No Additional Office Software
  • Adobe 1 month trial
  • Security Software Trial
  • 3-cell, 59 Wh Li-ion polymer
  • Full-size, backlit, soft grey keyboard
  • 5MP IR camera with temporal noise reduction and integrated dual array digital microphones
  • MediaTek Wi-Fi 7 MT7925 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5.4 wireless card
  • HP 1 Year Warranty

$1309 + tax

That's very competitive to the MB Air. Not sure about the display though.

The ASUS one looks more interesting. Sadly Samsung's ones look nice but seem to top out at 16GB of ram.

Oryon is going to be presented at this year's Hot Chips.

I won't be attending this year - I have less than zero interest in how AI-heavy the conference has become since I last went - but I'll be interested to see what comes out of that presentation.

Maybe Ian will do some in depth coverage this year. Interestingly, this may also give some extra insight on Apple Silicon as well. It would be great if they go into the huge caches and how the reorder buffer actually works.

Oh heck yeah. Technical details. This will basically put QC above Apple on divulging details most likely, which is cool because we’ll get some more official technical insight into what I suspect are similar structures in the CPU. Very exciting to see!

Yeah exactly. I said nearly the same thing.

This is funny…

How is the Air M3 cooler in single thread than a fanned 15” Surface?

Isn’t it obvious? The X Elite is not as efficient as the M3 in ST.

yeah Hawk Point is crap. For laptops around the same price range I’d take an X Plus over Hawk point. Will be much more efficient and nearly the same ST, just with AMD using much more power to get there.

see, Purwa competes with KRK1, not ughhh, HPT.
Plus Purwa 1t is like 2022-tier, not really "nearly the same ST". gross.

Wish it had a modem, might've been useful for chromebooks.

loool this is such good Spec bait. But the current X Plus is pretty close to what Hawk Point or MTL does on GB6 in practice (AMD needs all the watts and GHz they can on Hawk).

Purwa is a separate die btw. They haven’t released that yet. X1P-64-100 — the current X Plus — is just the X Elite binned down to 3.4GHz with fewer cores.

The one with the cut media engines and just 8 cores is later.

Look man I’ll be happy to hand AMD a dub if they can build a part with good battery life! They’re just kinda lazy about it. Kraken is still exciting!

This is the form factor IMO sourly missing (decent performance/nattery life) in the x86 windows market:

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x 14 Gen:
  • 70Wh battery
  • Excellent, bright 14" OLED
  • 1.28kg
  • Finally a phone level frontal a1080p webcam
  • Fanless? (Or a really tiny ome)
  • Starting From $1199

While more perf from the likes of zen5 would also be nice, this form factor is imo far more useful for an average home/office laptop

you don't have to tell me that.
I know QC roadmap just fine.

Battery life isn't worth much when your 1t perf is netbook-tier.

That's just a poverty X1c basically.
LNL one will be coming so you're kinda getting what you're looking for?

Doesn’t seem like you knew tbqh.

Hawk Point (Phoenix) in real laptops without absurd cooling does like 2400-2600. 3.4GHz X Plus does 2425 or so. It’s fine.

It's just meh.
Maybe Glymur will be cool, but H1'26 is le medusa era.
Ooo Zen 6. Exciting stuff.
Yeah but that's also at lower watts.
I’ve seen AMD and QC’s curves and it ain’t pretty for the former. Kraken you may have a valid point though. We’ll see!
this guy LNL's.
You joke, but even though I’m rooting for QC and other Arm vendors (besides Apple) I might just buy LNL lol. So yeah.

Yeah fancypants packaging going mainstream from people who actually would put it to a good use.

the cheapo ideapad (5? with 8840U) I tortured was aight.

Yeah LNL X1c seems like the T&L to get this refresh.
I'll be buying stx-halo anyway for SCIENCE! and Anno sesh on the go.

Ya. We’ll see how that goes. I’m still hazy on what implications it has for monolithic 15-45W parts or if those are gone.

Tbf, I think it’s inferior but I agree it’s tolerable. It’s probably the best cheapo part right now and for the future by a mile.

Ya. Stx Halo LP Z5 is exciting. LP cores but done the right way. Should make Stx Halo battery life actually usable to a degree.

USRs are good and cheap and idle stuff will be offloaded to the LP ghetto. It'll be fine.
They've deferred doing that off Strixes anyway.

Nah the cheapo champion is the 2+4 KRK chop.

oh it's very-very-very usable, since it's not the server uncore lmao.
