Winestore owner and longtime friend hooked me up with a steal. 13 cases of white bergundies, champagne, italian, spanish wines for 40% off and a few cases of 'chaeauneuf du papes for 20% above his wholesale purchase price. no one was buying and I am the lucky owner now. had to back the car into the garage hoping the neighbours didn't see and begin judging.

not bad for about 200 bottles of wine. need to go back tomorrow or end of friday day and pick up some port and sherries that haven't budged much. not many port or sherry drinkers round these areas. easier to look past the utter stupidity on this and other sites once inebriated. Although I do enjoy roasted new potatoes, fish and some wine while watching my mystery shows.

I've never not been able to save attachments, but I never do it by drag/drop. I always use the [Save as] dialog, and put them in a folder.

Yeah that's what I kept having to do. Right click and save, and it would save. I'm currently on Linux Mint but had the issue on other distros too. I feel it might be more a Thunderbird thing, so maybe it will work for you too now.

Hmm...so future multi-millionaire. What's your plan on keeping out squatters? Shoot on sight? Warning shot?

EDIT: never mind. I thought 40 acres was a lot. Not even one sq. km.

I think in Ontario squatters have to be there at least 10 years before they own the land, so my plan is to have enough walking trails that I can more or less cover every square meter of the land. If they refuse to leave I'd just make life difficult for them like throwing fish guts at their stuff so bears get into it. I don't think it's going to be a problem in my area though. There are thousands of acres of crown land all around they can freely camp legally on as long as they move every 21 days.

I was actually suppose to go today to start cutting a trail to a build area and I just got lazy and ended up doing stuff around the house instead. Also went to buy drywall. I can't do that when it rains so at least I have a bunch of sheets already in my house now for a rainy day project like working on the basement.

Although whitewater rafting showed completely booked online for the next three days, I called anyways and found a single slot available for tomorrow, so I'm going rafting!

No one thing but I'm having a nice day and just having a lot of minor things going well. Plus I mowed the lawn and the physical activity always makes with a bit of dopamine.

That's a misinterpretation. Shortening grass sucks bad. It's like straddling a fence and jumping up and down on your balls. It feels amazing when you stop, same as shortening grass.

I've been playing with different fancier hitches over the last few months trying to find something that works well with a hitchhiker & 11mm rope. None were reliable. Finally tried a French prusik, and it works amazingly. It also doesn't get any simpler to tie.

Not anything Earth shattering but I just saw a rainbow in my backyard - twice. It didn't stay long enough either time for pics but I'm pretty sure I won't be so blessed again.

My owl friends are back. I had four, maybe five hooting back to me last night in my courtyard.

Comcast is now giving me 725/25 on my 300/25 data plan after I switched to a multi gig modem. No I'm not going to tell them.

While going through some storage boxes, I discovered a large stash of hand loaded rifle rounds my dad never used. 1st run brass, Sierra and Noslers for bullets, mostly .243 and .308, maybe 60 rounds of 7mm RemMag. Good seal on the containers, I'm guessing they are good to go. Probably about $400 in ammo altogether. I no longer own a .243 too, so looks like I have an excuse to buy another wireless hole puncher. Can't let Pop's brass go to waste.

This was my first world problem today

Well I had the coffee date. With this English professor. Started at 6:30, she thought she'd be home at 7:30, and we ended at 9:30 only because the coffee shop closed 🤷

So bright, engaging, multi faceted, adventurous, well read, and beautiful too. Finally a second date worth looking forward to.

Was not expecting that
Sorry professor, my dog ate my homework.

Black bear? Don't leave food out (or heads). Leave a radio on in your tent. Maybe piss everywhere for good measure.

Having a dog with you helps, something to keep a nose in the wind for you, also provides an additional unpleasant scent for the bear.

Grizz country? Find a motel.

No bear spray here. That would come in handy more downtown tbh lol. Have not seen any bears so far while I was there, but did see a moose a while back. Moose can be a threat but if you keep your distance they'll leave you alone. If it's mating season try not to look too attractive.

From first world

The past week - I ordered a nice shark cordless vacuum that was on sale for $250. It never got delivered due to address issues, which is a real long first world problem story about the building management where my office is. So I had to wait x amount of days before I could request a refund. So i ordered another vacuum, this time that one wasn't on sale but a slightly newer version of it was on sale with a bit longer battery life. So I ordered that. Anyways that one came and it was clear it had been an open box, plus the pet cleaner attachment was just missing completely. So I complained to Amazon CS and said I would just like to exchange it. Well that model was no longer on sale and was $70 more. So I said can I just return this one, order the new one at full price, and geta a $70 credit? They said no.

To reverse first world:

Well they couldn't give me that credit. So I got escalated. The supervisor said they valued my business and would refund me the entire amount of the vacuum as an Amazon credit and I could keep it, and it should be more than enough to get a pet hair brush. I said hell yes. Apparently I spend too much money on Amazon. This is true.

I've been using that open box vacuum (most stuff seemed new but some was not packaged right) and it's been amazing. So so much better than my cheap Chinese cordless one that broke in 10 months, which is why I ordered a shark in the first place.

So I got $275 in free money on Amazon plus a great $350 vacuum that is miles better than my last $100 on sale Chinese brand one.

Let's gooooooooooo.

A cordless vacuum is one of the greatest things. Clean floors equals good mood.

Had to check the water meter. Opened the smaller cover and the glass on the meter was fogged, mud splashed. Reached down in to wipe it and a mass of the really mean red wasps rolled out around my arm. Not a one stung me.

Let them vacate then pulled the bigger cover with a can of spray ready. Nest was 2-3" in diameter.

Was.

Normally hate Sandisk but I'm compelled to express my admiration for the 64GB Ultra Flair USB 3.0 metallic UFD.

Went through a 15 minute wash cycle. When I took out my shirt and it fell out, my heart just sank, obviously for the data inside. Left it outside overnight in the kitchen where it's dry and hot. Checked it just now in the office PC coz I didn't want any home laptop's USB port getting fried, and IT WORKED!

May God bless all the people associated in the design and development of this UFD. AMEN!

My credit line is officially paid off... well sorta. Been carrying a balance on it since I bought my truck a few years ago, since a bit after that I bought my land. I was down to about 10k and my mortgage opened officially as of today, so I transferred the 10k to the mortgage but there was a bit left over as other transactions took place from then to now. Got paid today and was able to actually bring it right down to 0, along with the credit card. (I always pay that off when I get paid).

It's kind of nice to see a balance of zero under that account now, even though it's just reflected in the mortgage now... but I also increased the mortgage payments to make up for it. At least I only have one debt to worry about now. Ideally I'm done with any major purchases for the next little while so I can focus on paying the house off. If I see that I'm doing good with the current payment scheme I might up it even more. My goal has always been to have the house paid off by 40. I don't think I'll quite pull it off but I should get close.

Son started grad school in August. Apparently it's not easy to get a slot with the prof/lab you want. Got the offer he wants today. Says he about to start his PhD journey.

Sounds a lot like adulting.

I dislike those, overheat and drastically slow down if not lockup on extended writes. Plus I had mine on a keyring and the tabs that hold the plastic loop frame on, wore off so I almost lost it. I epoxied the loop back on but no longer keep on my keyring.

The thing about those, and the other Sandisks that are the size of a USB plug itself, is the entirety of the electronics are integrated into that little blue plastic puck at the end, and it's only about 1.5cm long despite the body of the flash drive being so much longer. It is completely waterproof, and since the contacts are gold plated (until enough use to wear the plating away), impervious to most chemicals it would likely come in contact with. It's just a shame they didn't have enough room in the height of a USB port form factor, to integrate a metal heatsink slug onto the back of it so it could use the body of the drive more effectively as a heatsink.
