Starfield - The successor to Freelancer?

I have bought most of their games at release and played through them without any game-breaking issues. Sure their games are buggy but I have never experienced anything game-breaking. Modders always make Besthesda games better. I'll mod as I go, but I'll enjoy the game from release. 🤘

I will too if it’s good. The “Bethesda games are broken for a year” cliche is FUD IMO. I’ve played a few of their semi-recent games day one and had no major issues.

Also it’s not like the same engineers and designers are building this game as the ones who built say Skyrim. The people building this game were probably in high school and college playing Skyrim on day one, as I was.

Microsoft Head of Xbox Phil Spencer told Giant Bomb during the same interview that "I think Matt [Booty] says we have every QA person in our entire company playing Starfield right now."

Bethesda's reputation for releasing buggy games is well known by all and I'm sure Microsoft would like to improve QA across the board. Nothing wrong with that. If it is truly all hands on deck for QA, it can't be a bad thing.

I wonder if this will allow them to deliver a "final" build, instead of shipping it in an almost finished state and then releasing a hasty post launch patch.

The first gameplay footage of Starfield was revealed a couple days ago and looks to have everything we wanted in a sequel to Freelancer.

I really hope Starfield turns out to be hugely successful with an active modding community like Skyrim. Bethesda beating Chris Roberts to the punch would be great to witness.

i find it almost comical to imply Star Citizen is ever going to launch.

Well Star Citizen will launch if only to avoid litigation.

I guess your counter argument is that if its development is in perpetuity, then you technically cant sue them, unless there is some "unreasonable/timely delivery" precedent.

i suspect SC went something like this;

1. in 2012, start with a reasonable plan. say, a Freelancer remake.
2. realize that wouldnt be THAT amazing
3. add a feature.
now, ALL the bits of your game you havent designed yet, will need to have that feature
4. keep up the feature creep until you have IN THEORY a game it would take until 2030 to build
5. realize your business is not in releasing games, but showcasing the world's most expensive tech demo

That does make me think other Xbox games are going to be buggy as they have no QA testers left to test them.

Great so amd exclusive means no DLSS? From the games I've played where only fsr is a available I prefer running the game without it at all since in my opinion fsr is inferior.

Already figure the game will run rough on Nvidia cards as per other titles I've played that are amd sponsored.

.. i mean, it's well known that all their artists have joke at-will contracts, so it's not like they got that "cannot divert manpower" excuse.
And, six years is enough, right? Should in itself be enough time for the entire development cycle, more so when you can expect to earn A LITERAL BILLION DOLLARS from it.

Making good games is hard. Let them take their time. Would you rather they put out something half baked?

Really good game developers/artists/level designers/writers are not easy to find. Getting most of them to collaborate is even harder. Genius people are weird. And yeah, game publishers don't really want to make their employees rich coz then they will go on and make their own studios. All of these factors limit how many good AAA titles can come out, especially those with massive worlds.

I'm generally not into the whole pre-order thing, but I ended up getting a game code off of a GPU I bought. Since Star Citizen is likely a bust, I hope this game fills that void.

I'll be on vacation for some time so hopefully someone here will get it and provide some feedback. I knew nothing or didn't follow anything about the game so when I initially saw the gameplay demo it did intrigue me.

If it is a bust there is still Baldur's Gate 3 I'll be playing and Armored Core 6.

I’ve been into SC a bit, there absolutely is the outline of a game and there are multiple “game loops” to play however it certainly is unfinished, it does occasionally crash and there are odd bugs. I am tolerant of those items so it’s not a big deal to me. If you own it it’s worth loading up and trying it out.

I expect it will buggy. I always thought it was more scope that caused their games to be so broken on launch. The game worlds are huge, and I'm guessing, a lot of it is procedurally generated. With so much content everywhere, I figured it will be a mess. Hopefully not though.

DLSS is supposedly coming in the first week from the modder guy who I can't remember...

Have you received the game from AMD yet or just the AMD Rewards code? I know of nobody who has received the game from AMD yet.
