I do think companies are jumping the gun way too fast on using it for actual content. There is probably still a very limited set of variety so we might actually start seeing content that is basically the same. Going to make for some interesting copyright lawsuits too when companies sue other companies because the wording of a story is similar or what not.

If multiple countries develop their own Skynet, will the Skynets fight each other or cooperate to dominate us humans?

I'm trying not to be sad, but I'm feeling sad today lol. Specifically on the illustration & photography fronts. For starters, Adobe announced generative AI to change colors, themes and fonts of graphics in Adobe Illustrator through text prompts:

I work with a tablet in Illustrator quite a bit. This is like, pretty bonkers. I got into Adobe products over 20 years, back in high school, and have spent SO MUCH MANUAL LABOR OVER THE YEARS DOING WHAT AI DOES IN SECONDS! AHHHH!!

On the photography & image-generation front, AI rescaling is...bananas. Here's a sample demonstration:

Adobe Photoshop generative fill is also pretty bonkers. My wife does wedding photography & editing is so tedious, especially for custom work like fixing hair, makeup, removing people, etc. Now it's literally available at the push of a button:

Video effects are just on the cusp of getting really crazy. It's a lot of manual work right now, but here's an example of Stable Diffusion & EbSynth taking a video clip & transforming it with special effects:

If you're not familiar with this type of work, check out the trailer for 2006's "A Scanner Darkly". One minute of this film took 500 hours to make by a team of 30 people working full-time every day:

Artificial intelligence has helped create the last Beatles song.

Someone released a fake AI track using Drake & the Weeknd's voices & got millions of views online:

Another one:

AI is hitting everything creative...they put 25 minute's worth of the latest de-aging tech into Indiana Jones 5:

This one is a little misleading IMO, since in this case it was just separating the voice from the guitar on the demo (based on what I read elsewhere, didn't read this article). It did help, but it's not the same way AI has been used for a number of other musical games.

Midjourney 5.2 just came out. One of the features is "zoom out", which is like Photoshop's "generative fill" feature, where it can fill in the gap of a generated image using AI to guess what "should" be there. It does a SCARY good job:

The ability to render human beings from scratch is incredible. These are both 100% AI-generated images, no photography or manual CGI involved!

So DragGAN was just released on Github. Essentially, you can take an image (AI-generated, CGI, or photo), drag it around how you want with different parameters, and the AI will use generative fill to adjust the image:

More video examples:

Previously, AI has been mostly limited to written prompts & some integrated tools, like Blender plug-ins. Now, it's basically like instant Photoshop. This is the equivalent to the microwave oven being released to the consumer market...ANYONE can now simply drag & drop changes onto an image to manipulate it in hyper-realistic ways with zero skill required!

On the worrying side of the fence, the "A.I. stole my job" posts are starting to roll in. As someone who enjoys writing, yikes:

Reddit: Lost all my content writing contracts. Feeling hopeless as an author.

We've seen product dumbing-down happen in all areas, especially food, but it also applies to writing:

Frankly, I'm amazed at how many non-nerdy people are adopting ChatGPT. I have IT clients & friends in lots of different industries...real-estate people are using it to write listings, business people are using it to generate custom art for their presentations, even Zoom is using it to do things like automatically write meeting notes:

These tools are going to be mega-helpful to people tho, especially people who struggle with writing & just need to send out information:

OTOH...lol:

Killswitch engineer is exactly the kind of honeypot an AI would put out there to kill off any threats to it.

Yeah.... neither of those looks "real" to my eye sorry.

Straight out of a video game more like. We're not all that far off from "photo-realistic" generated images but no way are we there yet either. (especially when they start moving around and speaking... the "uncanny valley" is absolutely still a thing!)

"AI" writing is still REALLY freaking obvious too .... any time I detect it's use (which still is not at all difficult!) I immediately stop reading that source completely and forever. (same goes for garbage "AI editing")

LAZY-ass content producers falling back on "Chat GPT" etc doing the work for you because you really can't write yourself, YOU are hereby on notice. Nevermind not reading/watching your AI-generated BS, I won't even be SEEING "your" stories at all.

I don't think it's so much about photorealism yet as much as the fact that none of those images existed & were drawn by a computer using a giant database! They added photography filters in a couple generations ago too:

Photo/video-realism 100% certainly is the ultimate goal .... especially in "AI-generated" video for "fake news" stories.

Scarily they WILL get there pretty soon too!

The "powers that be" have been working on this since the 1980's.

It's like the geniuses of the world are dumbing down the rest of humanity with their inventions. The intelligent humans will become scarce and then persecuted by the dumb masses. And then there will be only dumb people left on Earth and complete chaos. I hope I'm dead before that happens.

Maybe it's just me, I don't really find it all that impressive that a program with who knows how many thousands of images of people to work from can generate a picture of a person, regardless of how detailed it is. I also don't think we should be outsourcing creative endeavours to AI, I think it's stupid, unnecessary, and regrettable.
