some keychain tools and a swole version of the skeletool.
the led cobs are
frikken bright.
i have a cheapo 18650 powered led flashlight with throw adjustment and i thought it was bright, but after seeing these thing with all the elements lit is just ridiculous. they are using the same logic boards with 6 settings to cycle thru: white cold, white cold dim, white warm, white warm dim, red, red strobe. there is charge indicator on the back (4 blue led bulbs) with a port on the side for usb-c charging. they come with a hardened spike for breaking tempered glass. the cutouts are wrenches for various sizes of nuts/bolts. they even have a screw threaded hole for mounting on a tripod. the metal part might be a magnesium alloy based on how light it is, if i ever really ding it up i will take some shavings and see if it reacts to acid. (square one has 20 cold white leds, 12 warm white, 6 red; the round one has 10 cold white, 8 warm, 4 red but adds a magnet on the back and a narrow throw lens). they even have some 1/8" screwdriver bits on the back.
[there are teardown videos of other versions, the Li-ion battery inside is a tiny pouch type that is likely impossible to buy a replacement for]
the keychain tools are pretty cool. carabiner, wrench for nuts, flat screwdriver, philips, bike spoke wrench, bottle opener, cord/seatbelt cutter, metric ruler, wire cutter. there are multiple versions on amazon. i tried the cheap one and the standard name brand, the cheap one doesnt have the wire cutter. the name brand versions are the swiss tech or the alltul vulture.
the multi-tool is a weird one. basically a leatherman skeletool on steroids with some changes to the layout. the blade, cord cutter, and saw are sharp and well finished. it improves on the skeletool by adding a spring to the pliers to auto open them and putting it on the opposite end from the knife blade. i wanted the stainless or silver version but they ran out of stock, but since amazon now stocks their own cheaper crappier amazonBasics $13 copy of this i'm assuming they bought out or negotiated a contract with the manufacturer. at $17 it is decent, nowhere near as finished as a leatherman but better than the cheaper crap multi-tools out there. very wide, with a bit too slick powdercoat. but that cord/belt cutter is ridiculously sharp.
it is fascinating that all these cheapo knockoffs of these doodads are so rampant on amazon so soon after the original comes out. i watched a video about patent application and apparently it isnt worth it for the original company to try to police all the copies through the courts. i cant even find the original name brand versions of the cobs.
