Learning to thumb is a bit of an art form. You also have to adjust the drag such that your lure/hook just barely doesn't drop when you hold the pole out at a 45 degree angle upward.
Been watching some YT vids on it. Looks like fun and looking forward to trying it out.

A new deck belt for by JD S240. Damn thing is barely a year old and the belt ripped mid-mow this past weekend. So that's a fun repair activity I get to take on this week after the kids are down.

Thanks, got it to work with ffplay. VLC doesn't like my setup for some reason. In order to change the settings for the cameras in that Windows software, you have to do three security questions "Mother's middle name", etc. Besides being a security problem, it has a long list of questions, all but two of which are selectable but blank. Unfortunately you need three questions....

I was able to skip those questions, I just hit cancel and it brought me in to the web interface and never asked again thankfully.

Hah, those things are so weirdly bouncy and almost ethereal, it would be neat to see how they'd react.

I just always thought they were neat and was curious if they'd be good at being desiccants or a way to slowly release water for plants. Right now I've got 1g in some everclear to see if they will selectively pull out the water. So far it seems like maybe they will, though god knows what they're contaminating the ethanol with.

I saw a short article on them a few years ago, and for the life of me, I can't remember what the stated uses were. Maybe there weren't any, and it was just a tech demo. Pretty cool though.

Had some REI credit and used the last of it. The anniversary sale was good. I ended up getting two pairs of Janji Transit Tech pants on sale - they are jogger style. I figured I'd see if I could pull them off at 50 and they are dope! I thought only the kids could rock it but I am in it as an old man. Super comfy, perfect for an upcoming trip and transition into lounging pants seamlessly - the fabric is excellent and the DWR coating performs well. Also went with a PacSafe sling bag on sale, just for the secured zippers, for when traveling in Italy.

Sold a chip, plus a bunch of lightly used gaming mice, as I found my current endgame trio lol The Lamzu Atlantis OG v2, the Logitech Superlight 2, and the Pulsar X2H. I did not want to buy Logitech but the size and shape are so good for my hands and grip. The Pulsar has a unique shape to it and it works. Overall, I am happy picking any of these up for a gaming session and it will take a lot of using to settle into the best of the best. Mice are personal for gamers! It's sexy time with your hand, and it ain't your wee wee!

There is also a lot of good, used and/or refurbished equipment.

Before I switched to mirrorless, I was considering picking up a better "walking around" lens for my 77D so that I could just bring the body + lens on my trip, and there was definitely a lot out there. However, a big reason I ended up with an R10 was because Canon happened to be selling a refurbished one with the basic kit lens for something like 60% of the normal price, and after doing all the math of what I could get selling my stuff and trading up vs just buying a new, nicer lens, it kind of made sense to do the trade-up.

I even almost went a completely different route. I contemplated picking up a premium point-and-shoot (but thanks to TikTok trends, those have been somewhat difficult to find, and I wasn't completely sold on them at the time; though, I think they can still be nice as a supplement to a phone when you're out and about).

I know what you mean.. I had a Nikon P300 point and shoot and I learned a lot of photography with that one.

I would just set it to shutter priority and shoot as I was out at night. Not the best pics but i learned that you need a big aperture and clean iso for good low light shots.

I put that to work with my full frame. This is my D600 with a 35mm prime open at f/2.8 hand held..

Compare that to the P300 with the 1 second exposure

BTW just out of curiosity.. did Canon fix their auto focusing issues? Last time I was looking at a platform Canon were having auto focusing issues.. and you can make the best camera in the world but it's trash if it shoots out of focus!

I ended up going with Nikon and I can't really complain..

My friend who fishes in tournaments makes fun of me because most of my reels are left handed. I explained that then I wouldn't have to swap hands after each cast, since I'm very right handed. He agreed it made sense but still makes fun of me for it. If you want something wild, look up the Japanese reels which have magnetic brakes on them. You can fling them like crazy and almost never get a backlash. I have one and it's really nice.

I think some of the premium P&S cameras are using somewhat beefy sensors, which definitely make them better than the cheaper P&S of old, especially for lower light, but its definitely still hard to beat a properly set up shot with a wide aperture on an mirrorless or dSLR.

I haven't seen any issues with my Canon 77D or the R10 I got to replace it. I recall seeing it as a criticism, but I thought it was with other mirrorless models, and firmware updates have since been released.

After watching a few vids I noticed some guys using their left hand to reel in (I'm right) and thought that makes sense to not have to change hands. I tried "air reeling" just to see how it would feel and it felt weird but not something I couldn't get used to after a few days of practice. Will have to see how things feel when I get the rig.
