Thanks!

Yeah, I have downloaded the Payke app which has coupon for Bic Camera. Goign t the main one near the Imperial Palace, I can feel my wallet is getting lighter already lol.
Also, things might look close on a map, but the Imperial Palace and the gardens around it are huge. It took us at least 30 minutes to walk from the south edge of the north eastern garden to the center of Ginza, and the walk wasn't the most pleasant alongside a strode that runs adjacent to the park.

Can't recall if I ever posted this but got 2 Annke C800 cameras, and got 2 more recently.

These are actually pretty nice for the price and simple to setup, and no phone app, cloud or other nonsense required, just a basic web interface, which is getting rarer now days with tech products. They're on sale right now too... tempting to get more.

Got all 4 going now as a test running off a basic desktop 10/100 PoE switch. Deck one is actually installed in it's permanent location, and I will probably keep one for wood stove too but set it up more permanent as right now it's just on a table. Getting ready to insulate inside of the garage so been running the appropriate conduits and wiring for the outside cameras and other electrical stuff that can be done from there before I close stuff up. Always wanted to do this, so finally getting to it now.

I have 2 to install in the front of the house and at another point I'll install one or more in the back yard to get other angles. Seems overkill but if I'm going to put security cameras, I'm going to cover all entry points. No sense in having a weakness as if someone is going to break in they'll just bypass the cameras and use that route.

Crime is not super bad in my specific neighbourhood but it does happen, got hit a few times but they didn't really take anything and some attempts failed completely, probably got spooked by a noise before they got in. Now I'll be able to actually have eyes on that. Will also be interesting to see what kind of wildlife I get around here.

Will set these up in zone minder then look into how I can access from my phone too, probably just VPN.

Nice. I see they're PoE. What does the regular DC power adapter look like? I'm looking to get some cameras and these seem perfect.

That's the nice thing, no adapter required, they plug straight into the POE switch and work at 48v. The camera itself has a cord end that an ethernet cable plugs straight in, with optional 12v power input. I terminate with a keystone at the soffit, then use a 1/2' cable to interconnect them. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that it has that integrated cable rather than a socket right at the base. It makes for lot of excess cable to have to push into the hole of where you mount it, so it's something to account for. For the soffit it was not so bad as there's lot of empty space up there.

This is the switch I ended up going with:

Although immediately after ordering that I found out that there are some homeland security issues with TP-link... but it's on an isolated vlan that cannot access anything else, so think it should be fine.

Was going to take a drive today and never left the house. Battery dead. Couldn't even turn off the car alarm, which kind of squeaked faintly. Could have jumped the car with my recently bought Gooloo but decided to call AAA instead. Guy came quickly, tested and said my battery was basically dead and needed replacing. Said he could do it on the spot. I had my doubts because my 58R battery is kind of rare. I said I'd investigate and maybe call them back.

Spent a couple hours online and was unable to find a better deal: $223. Almost nobody has them in stock. I call AAA and he comes out again. He installs a 35N-C instead, a much smaller battery, saying it will be fine. AI disagrees, but what does it know?

I think I may have a battery drain going on in the car, will keep an eye on this battery. He said it should hold a decent charge with my car just sitting in my driveway for a month, which surprised me.

The battery has what I take to be a date code on it, 8-25. I figure that means either it was manufactured during the 8th week of 2025 or it's supposed to be pulled from stock in August 2025 if not sold.

I have the same issue with my truck, I tested it and have around 600ma worth of drain and I need to plug it in or disconnect the battery or it won't even last 12 hours. When the weather is nicer I'll try to see if I can at least narrow it down to a specific fuse. Hopefully it's something that's not important. Trying to get a year or two out of it before I get something else as my mortgage is almost paid off so be nice to make it last at least until then. The rust is pretty bad though.
