Thanks!

Yeah, I have downloaded the Payke app which has coupon for Bic Camera. Goign t the main one near the Imperial Palace, I can feel my wallet is getting lighter already lol.
Also, things might look close on a map, but the Imperial Palace and the gardens around it are huge. It took us at least 30 minutes to walk from the south edge of the north eastern garden to the center of Ginza, and the walk wasn't the most pleasant alongside a strode that runs adjacent to the park.

Ah, I see it now. I thought it was something for mixing acids.

You need to show your glasswork when you do it.

Can't recall if I ever posted this but got 2 Annke C800 cameras, and got 2 more recently.

These are actually pretty nice for the price and simple to setup, and no phone app, cloud or other nonsense required, just a basic web interface, which is getting rarer now days with tech products. They're on sale right now too... tempting to get more.

Got all 4 going now as a test running off a basic desktop 10/100 PoE switch. Deck one is actually installed in it's permanent location, and I will probably keep one for wood stove too but set it up more permanent as right now it's just on a table. Getting ready to insulate inside of the garage so been running the appropriate conduits and wiring for the outside cameras and other electrical stuff that can be done from there before I close stuff up. Always wanted to do this, so finally getting to it now.

I have 2 to install in the front of the house and at another point I'll install one or more in the back yard to get other angles. Seems overkill but if I'm going to put security cameras, I'm going to cover all entry points. No sense in having a weakness as if someone is going to break in they'll just bypass the cameras and use that route.

Crime is not super bad in my specific neighbourhood but it does happen, got hit a few times but they didn't really take anything and some attempts failed completely, probably got spooked by a noise before they got in. Now I'll be able to actually have eyes on that. Will also be interesting to see what kind of wildlife I get around here.

Will set these up in zone minder then look into how I can access from my phone too, probably just VPN.

Nice. I see they're PoE. What does the regular DC power adapter look like? I'm looking to get some cameras and these seem perfect.

That's the nice thing, no adapter required, they plug straight into the POE switch and work at 48v. The camera itself has a cord end that an ethernet cable plugs straight in, with optional 12v power input. I terminate with a keystone at the soffit, then use a 1/2' cable to interconnect them. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that it has that integrated cable rather than a socket right at the base. It makes for lot of excess cable to have to push into the hole of where you mount it, so it's something to account for. For the soffit it was not so bad as there's lot of empty space up there.

This is the switch I ended up going with:

Although immediately after ordering that I found out that there are some homeland security issues with TP-link... but it's on an isolated vlan that cannot access anything else, so think it should be fine.

Was going to take a drive today and never left the house. Battery dead. Couldn't even turn off the car alarm, which kind of squeaked faintly. Could have jumped the car with my recently bought Gooloo but decided to call AAA instead. Guy came quickly, tested and said my battery was basically dead and needed replacing. Said he could do it on the spot. I had my doubts because my 58R battery is kind of rare. I said I'd investigate and maybe call them back.

Spent a couple hours online and was unable to find a better deal: $223. Almost nobody has them in stock. I call AAA and he comes out again. He installs a 35N-C instead, a much smaller battery, saying it will be fine. AI disagrees, but what does it know?

I think I may have a battery drain going on in the car, will keep an eye on this battery. He said it should hold a decent charge with my car just sitting in my driveway for a month, which surprised me.

The battery has what I take to be a date code on it, 8-25. I figure that means either it was manufactured during the 8th week of 2025 or it's supposed to be pulled from stock in August 2025 if not sold.

I have the same issue with my truck, I tested it and have around 600ma worth of drain and I need to plug it in or disconnect the battery or it won't even last 12 hours. When the weather is nicer I'll try to see if I can at least narrow it down to a specific fuse. Hopefully it's something that's not important. Trying to get a year or two out of it before I get something else as my mortgage is almost paid off so be nice to make it last at least until then. The rust is pretty bad though.

I asked about mechanical keyboards before.. and although I really didn't want to buy logitech again.. went into a store and tried em out.. the logitech mx mechanical felt the best in my hands. I got that one on a discount for $95.

Maybe I should have gone with MSI (that is much cheaper) and hot swappable??

I'm still under the 30 day return period so if anyone has experience with a hot swappable keyboard.. would appreciate some feedback if it's better to get one of those instead.

Be careful with Unicomp. I've bought three boards from them over the years and none of them worked properly. The circuit boards would flex out of alignment and they all had weird problems being detected by some computers. I remember reading somewhere that they have a weird voltage requirement - don't remember if it's very strictly in spec or very strict but out of spec.

I really like the 8 Bit Do Nintendo and C64 keyboards.

Fellow Ode 2.0 coffee grinder. My Baratza Encore has been wildly inconsistent as of late, despite my trying to fix every possible issue.

In the past month:

  • Replaced 2 routers (one was going bad) with two Asus AX86U Pros
  • Replaced the kids 2.5 year old iPhones
  • Bought a Mac Air 13in for the wife (she was without personal laptop)
  • Half replacement for desktop - new 9900X3D, 32G Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000 CL30, MSI X870E, New boot drive nvme. (Reusing case, fans, drives, PSU, and 7900XT)
Why? Because we’d be replacing this stuff some time this year and didn’t want to deal with supply issues or tariffs.

DeWalt Cordless Leaf Blower

https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCBL722B-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Handheld/dp/B085DYPC1D

This is one tool that is great in a corded type - small, light and inexpensive but awkward to use. Cordless ones are less powerful and heavier. This is a good compromise I guess, powerful enough for my needs and weighs about 5 pounds.

I already have batteries and chargers for DeWalt and B&D; didn't want to have yet another brand so stuck with DeWalt.

Those are awesome for taking snow off the vehicle in winter, at least when it's just an inch or so. I have a Greenworks 80v one and it's pretty powerful, can clear sand etc off the driveway too.

All the snow is mostly gone now and I can get to my uncut firewood, but my splitting maul is at the off grid property, and my wood splitter is too far in the shed for me to want to try to dig it out.

So bought a splitting axe, tried it real quick and it works better than the maul actually. I may have gotten lucky that this log was an easy one, but it was not exactly dry. Tested at 40% moisture content.

Also bought a hatchet, mostly because I thought it was cool that it was the exact same design as the one my grandpa bought me when I was a kid. Just rebranded. Used to be Mastercraft and now it's Certified but otherwise basically same axe.

This was 2 hits, was not really giving it everything I had either.

This was like, 1 minute of splitting, it just cut beautifully. Used hatchet to make the smaller pieces.

Going to go cut some more once I'm done my coffee. It's cold today so it's a good day to do it.

Tickets to see Simple Minds, Soft Cell and Modern English.

Really looking forward to Marc Almond and was hoping to hear something from his solo career, "Tears Run Rings", is a favorite. But per the previous nights SetList I'm getting no Marc Almond solo tracks and no Sex Dwarf!
