Two more cases of MREs came yesterday. Price dropped to $75, and I couldn't let that go. I've been stuck in the house the last few weeks, and the MREs have made the food choices more fun. After depleting the freezer food, I was left with cheese, crackers, and canned goods. I love all those things, but it's nice to mix it up on occasion.

Sent the Logitech mechanical keyboard back and got an MSI forge 310. It is hot swappable so I'll be keeping this one.

Looks cool too

If anyone has good experience with tactile/ linear switches.. that aren't too expensive but very good value buys.. please suggest me some.

I think I like the linear ones this one comes with.. I actually hit 84 WPM typing when my average is about 74-78 with the tactile.

Got a Think Tank Retrospective 4 v2.0 yesterday - a small shoulder camera bag that's pretty thin. Should be nice for travel and just general grab and go - easily for a mirrorless camera + mounted lens and one more of needed, plus a few more random things I might want to carry on outings.

I still have a amazon shoulder bag, and a backpack that houses both my cameras and lenses.

I seriously need to either sell my gear or start using it again.. after COVID I just stopped shooting pics except for hiking trips.

Now I just use my phone mostly if I need something.

Seems a waste of money since I was really invested into the hobby.. with a D600 and a D7200 and a few primes and 1 wide angle zoom.

Which Logitech keyboard did you have? I have a G815 I've been using now for a year or two that I've been pretty happy with.

I have an old Lowepro Nova 160 (?) shoulder bag too, but it's a bit chunkier, and it's likely to just remain an at-home storage bag. This new one is more for travel, or just carrying around town.

I found post-COVID, I hadn't been using my 77D a lot, and after some thinking about upgrading a lens or whatnot, I sold it prior to my Japan trip. But I picked up a lighter R10 (refurbished) in its place, and invested in a sling strap. I found that having something easier to take around and comfortable to carry around made it easier to just walk around with it in the first place. The sling strap is far more comfortable to carry a camera with than the default neck straps, and the weight savings of the mirrorless and smaller lens is a nice bonus.

I still have a Logitech G910 but the keys were malfunctioning..

So I tried out the Logitech Mechanical MX Tactile that I got recently and sent that one back.. mostly because it's not hot swappable and I want something I can fix without having to buy a whole new one. Logitech stuff is breaking way too often now.

Yep I have a shoulder sling strap too.. well at least for my D7200. The D600 has a neck strap.

BTW the new Tamron lenses are amazing. My last pickup was the Tamron 10-24.. it was sharper than any Nikon I could find.

I'll eventually get a 24mm prime lens since I love that focal length. On a DX it becomes a 35mm but 24mm wide is amazing for street captures.

Have to pick up a new propane tank today because the one I have is 33 years old and I talk anyone into filling it for me.

I've been preparing for war, but the immediate problem is I don't have transportation atm. I crushed a finger, and have been off of work with no transportation. Walmart is ~0.5mi away, but it's not a great walk, and fuck walmart anyway. I have a hard time getting motivated to drive there, much less walk.

Walmart delivers, and love it or hate it, it's got to be better than MRE's.
Regardless of that, best of luck to you, sounds like you need it.

Sadly, not many 3rd party lenses for Canon RF/RF-S mounts. I do have the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 contemporary lens though. Nice lens on a budget.

Before I sold off my EF stuff, I had a Tamon 28-75mm f/2.8 lens I purchased back in 2007, and that was always pretty nice. It was always very sharp, but perhaps wasn't quite the best to pair with a crop body as an every day lens.

I remember that one.. I had that. And also had the Tamron 70-300. Both were good.

The 10-24 is on another level though.. I mean for $450 or so which I got it.. it is easily $2500 quality.. sharper than Nikon's 14-24!

And btw I'm talking about this one.. not the older 10-24.. it's built like a tank!

Holy crap just noticed the prices have really dropped.. I think it is because of Nikon's switch to mirrorless.. not much of a demand of F mount lenses.. now everyone wants Z. I still have only F mount cameras and lenses so photography has become cheaper for me?? lol

There is also a lot of good, used and/or refurbished equipment.

Before I switched to mirrorless, I was considering picking up a better "walking around" lens for my 77D so that I could just bring the body + lens on my trip, and there was definitely a lot out there. However, a big reason I ended up with an R10 was because Canon happened to be selling a refurbished one with the basic kit lens for something like 60% of the normal price, and after doing all the math of what I could get selling my stuff and trading up vs just buying a new, nicer lens, it kind of made sense to do the trade-up.

I even almost went a completely different route. I contemplated picking up a premium point-and-shoot (but thanks to TikTok trends, those have been somewhat difficult to find, and I wasn't completely sold on them at the time; though, I think they can still be nice as a supplement to a phone when you're out and about).

Can't recall if I ever posted this but got 2 Annke C800 cameras, and got 2 more recently.

These are actually pretty nice for the price and simple to setup, and no phone app, cloud or other nonsense required, just a basic web interface, which is getting rarer now days with tech products. They're on sale right now too... tempting to get more.

Got all 4 going now as a test running off a basic desktop 10/100 PoE switch. Deck one is actually installed in it's permanent location, and I will probably keep one for wood stove too but set it up more permanent as right now it's just on a table. Getting ready to insulate inside of the garage so been running the appropriate conduits and wiring for the outside cameras and other electrical stuff that can be done from there before I close stuff up. Always wanted to do this, so finally getting to it now.

I have 2 to install in the front of the house and at another point I'll install one or more in the back yard to get other angles. Seems overkill but if I'm going to put security cameras, I'm going to cover all entry points. No sense in having a weakness as if someone is going to break in they'll just bypass the cameras and use that route.

Crime is not super bad in my specific neighbourhood but it does happen, got hit a few times but they didn't really take anything and some attempts failed completely, probably got spooked by a noise before they got in. Now I'll be able to actually have eyes on that. Will also be interesting to see what kind of wildlife I get around here.

Will set these up in zone minder then look into how I can access from my phone too, probably just VPN.

Evening pic just to show quality:

I bought four of these and just tried hooking them up. Holy crap is that software a war crime. Did you get these working with Linux and/or some sort of third party thing?

Oh I did not bother with any of their software, even the web interface seems to require some sort of plugin. I just configured the basic parameters and that's it. You can access the cameras in VLC by using this path:

rtsp://admin : password @ [host] /H264/ch1/main/av_stream

(added spaces since forum keeps making it into emojis)

My goal is to setup Zoneminder, but that seems like it's still a piece of hot garbage since last time I tried it, so looking at other options. Frigate sounds interesting think I will try that one next. It seems to have a more involved setup which I don't have patience for right now though, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks, got it to work with ffplay. VLC doesn't like my setup for some reason. In order to change the settings for the cameras in that Windows software, you have to do three security questions "Mother's middle name", etc. Besides being a security problem, it has a long list of questions, all but two of which are selectable but blank. Unfortunately you need three questions....

Ugh. I hate baitcasters. Its a bitch to untangle, which it will. Nothing beats a good quality Penn spin reel. I have dozens of them from the 70s and 80s.
Learning to thumb is a bit of an art form. You also have to adjust the drag such that your lure/hook just barely doesn't drop when you hold the pole out at a 45 degree angle upward.
