Ignorant much?Okay shit tok away. Have a good time with it.
Ignorant much?Okay shit tok away. Have a good time with it.
Who is Tic Tok’ing?Ignorant much?
Do you not understand the difference between China and the US? I mean seriously. China heavily censors the Internet, and has a kill switch to shut it down inside of China. Should the US do the same, since China is doing it?We see what happens with a generic capitalistic algorithms in terms of controlling peoples minds when it comes to social media. Facebook is banned in China right? Twitter is banned in China. I dont get why you'd want a state sponsored near peer adversary to 1. data mine your citizens and 2. put them on an -to China- advantageous algorithm. Take YG and raild' for example, worst case is they're actual US citizens and they've simply been scooped up by propaganda.
Why keep posting ignorant responses? Show us where tik tok touched you, so we can try to understand how they hurt you.Who is Tic Tok’ing?
Why turn this ugly? What purpose does it serve?
Erhm. Yea. Ok. Uhm. Naaaaaah dude.ByteDance. There is no evidence that it's controlled by the Chinese government.
Yes I do.Do you not understand the difference between China and the US? I mean seriously. China heavily censors the Internet, and has a kill switch to shut it down inside of China. Should the US do the same, since China is doing it?
It's sad you don't even understand why Facebook, Twitter, and such are banned in China. If you did, you wouldn't be using such an argument. China banning vehicles of US influences started long before Facebook and/or twitter ever existed. Why do you think that is? Why do you think China censors the Internet and has a kill switch to cut it off at anytime?
What information do you really think they can get from tik tok that they can't already get form hundreds of other sources, that gladly taken their money for it?
What about all the other China invested companies that are involved with every aspect of the US economy, and the very heart of our survival, all with the government's blessing? Why is nothing being done about those companies?
You are doing fine work on your own. Keep having a good time on Tik Toc while you call people dumb. Why keep posting ignorant responses? Show us where tik tok touched you, so we can try to understand how they hurt you.
Evidence to the contrary? See that's the problem, you and other's are running with what the US government is saying could happen, with no evidence that it is happening at all.Erhm. Yea. Ok. Uhm. Naaaaaah dude.
1. China doesn't own Bytedance. So they don't own the source. The fear our government has, is that the Chinese government could force them to share data and such. Yet, there is no evidence of that happening. Again, the same data that China can already get from other sources.Yes I do.
China is banning vectors of influence cause western way of living, society, is bad. Must keep domestic minds clean. Right? People might *get ideas*. Right?
So what you're advocating is for influence to only flow one way.
Come on.
1. Either way you wanna put it, in terms of access to information from social media and data mining, the fidelity of this data must necessarily be much much better if you own the source. No rockets involved here.
2. Influence. The algorithm. In hands of pure bred capitalism we've all seen how much they suck. That being said capitalism is not inherently evil and it's a know construct. A foreign hostile entity on the other hand... Look what Elmo has done with Twitter for example. Imagine someone competent wanting to create division and chaos.
What other Chinese companies have influence potential like tiktok on US soil?
Where did I call anyone dumb? Lack of knowledge (ignorant) does not make someone less intelligent (dumb). You are doing fine work on your own. Keep having a good time on Tik Toc while you call people dumb.
And every piece of shit they manufactured since then has been shit! The Chinese didn't not buy GE.
They (Haier) bought the GE Appliance division
in 2016 for around 5B back in 2016. Not the whole company.
Fact check: China's Haier purchased GE's appliance business in 2016
General Electric's appliance division was acquired by Haier for $5.4 billion in 2016, not recently, as claimed by some social media users.www.usatoday.com
I think all Chinese companies are potential vectors, yes. Much like Russia.Evidence to the contrary? See that's the problem, you and other's are running with what the US government is saying could happen, with no evidence that it is happening at all.
1. China doesn't own Bytedance. So they don't own the source. The fear our government has, is that the Chinese government could force them to share data and such. Yet, there is no evidence of that happening. Again, the same data that China can already get from other sources.
2. the influence of facebook, twitter, youtube, and other US media goes well beyond capitalsim, I wouldn't even consider it being the top motivator anymore. If you question that, all you have to do is look at the state of our politics in this country, and all the various catagories that fall under political topics that are running rampent on facebook, twitter, national news, and other US media sources.
Considering most of the content watched in the US is created by US citizens, how exactly is tik tok influencing us, or pushing foriegn idiology? is it taking control of the content creators and forcing them to create videos with hidden messages? Is it only letting people see the content that supporst right wing nut job views, or left wing views? Do you even understand how tik tok's algorithm works (The user's actions is what dictates what content they see)
to answer the quesion on what other Chinese companies have influence potential like tiktok, you have to first define what you consider dangerous to the US population and can cause serious damage to them and/or the US's stability, security, and economy. What influenences are you afraid of though? Is it the people who speak out about the US government's lies and manipulation, and tell us what the government doesn't want us to hear, and debunk a lot of shit, all coming from US citizens on tik tok? Is that the influene you are afraid of, and the very reason the US government is against tik tok? Is it the political influence, and political manipulation that is already rampant on facebook and twitter?
Personally, I am more concerned about the companies that have direct influence on our economy and our basic necessitites for survival. Lets take G.E. for example, with all the various industries they are involved in from smart devices to AeroSpace.. how do you think they can influence nearly every US citizen and effect our basic survival? Are you aware G.E. is owned by the Chinese, the 33rd largest company in the united states? What about all the Chinese companies that are part of our financial system, food supply, energy, etc? What kind of an influence do you think they have on the US? you are worried about people getting knowledge or the lack there of (influence) from tik tok, yet you are ignoring the real dangers around us that has full government approval. Maybe the US should ban the internet because it's the real vehicle used for influencing people. what do you think?
You mean exactly what is already happening with all US based media outlets from facebook to our national news media outlets, which has been taking place long before tik tok, with facebook having 3 times the user base tik tok has? The China Goverment does not own tik tok, That is a misconception that is fueling the fear around tik tok, spread by our government and those that are spreading the same misinformation. The China goverment is invested in it, thru what is called golden shares, which amounts to about 1%, and pretty much is required by most businesses in China who need access to the internet. China law also requires most chinese companies to share data and intelligence. So why is tik tok being singled out and non of those other businesses are being targeted? When you come to grips with the real reason, Which is our government wanting to silence people they don't want to be heard and call them out on their lies, you will understand why banning tik tok is dangerious and not the best interest of our citizens. You argue that China has banned Facebook and twitter. The irony of that argument is mind boggling, because China does it so they can control their citizens. And you want the same thing to happen in the US, more so than it already is. You are basically saying you want the US to be like China.I think all Chinese companies are potential vectors, yes. Much like Russia.
No. In terms of influence I am not worried about objective truths or subjective interpretations of that, what I am concerned about is targeted psyops operations amplifying racism antiwax anti-institutional rhetoric anti immigrant hunter bidens dickpics etc… And owning your own massive social media platform surely makes that easier.
Its what Russia is doing. I am not saying China is doing it right now, but…
You are correct, sorry. But with all the smart technology in appliances now days, what kind of impact and oportunities, do you think that has on data collection, and how they use it to influence the US population? It really is a pointless argument though when we have Chinese investments in companies involved in every aspect of our economy and basic needs for survival, all with our government's approval. The Chinese didn't not buy GE.

Yet, you are useing Youtube, one of the companies along with Meta/facebook, pushing for Tik Tok to be banned, which does the exact same thing. Heck, even google and other search engines, reddit, etc do it as well. But yeah, lets get ride of tik tok for doing the same thing facebook, youtube, and other media has been doing far longer than tik tok.. But thanks for putting the hypocrisy on full display.Good enough reason to ban TicTok.
You mean exactly what is already happening with all US based media outlets from facebook to our national news media outlets, which has been taking place long before tik tok, with facebook having 3 times the user base tik tok has? The point is banning tik tok won't change anything about China or other foreign influences, even if evidence ever surfaces of it taking place, as it's not even close to the level of influence that is already taking place thru the larger media outlets in the country already (facebook, twitter, youtube, national news media) by foreign entities including China. It also won't even make a scratch in what data the China government collects as it's available from hundreds, if not thousands of other source thru US companies by legal avenues, and every other company that is invested in and/or owned by China in the US because of China's data and intelligence laws. It amounts to trying to throwing a grain of rice at starvation from the perspective of influence and data collection. Tik tok however, has a huge impact on the lies and manipulation that is spread by our government. That is the reason why our government wants it banned, which will happen because it is already known that the China government will not allow it to be sold to a US company.
Notifications FTW? You mean like what Youtube, Facebook, google, Microsoft, reddit, news media, even interenet providers, who all have the capability of doing so, and have done as well? Not necessarily directed at what our government is doing, but they all have utilized forced notifications. What's funny, is I never recieved such notification from Tik Tok.. why is that, if it's such a problem? But, the real question is, what's your issue with a company, trying to protect their brand, letting their users know that the US government is unjustly going after them, other than the fact it's Tik Tok? It's like you are obliviouls of what's happening around you, and has been happening long before Tik Tok.TikTok notifications FTW.
My dryer just died the other day and it was a GE and it worked for 14 years. So I was kind of stuck on getting another GE. Then I saw another deal for an LG that also qualified for the power company rebates, so I ordered it instead. I did not know that GE appliances were bought out by China. Not American, but not Chinese. The Chinese didn't not buy GE.

Does it? Really? Is there some special thing happening on Tik Tok that couldn't also happen on many other internet platforms that the US government is not trying to ban? Can you provide any examples? What's happening on Tik Tok that couldn't happen on Mastodon, or Discord, etc?Tik tok however, has a huge impact on the lies and manipulation that is spread by our government. That is the reason why our government wants it banned, which will happen because it is already known that the China government will not allow it to be sold to a US company.
Shit dude. None of this is going anywhere without common sense.Notifications FTW? You mean like what Youtube, Facebook, google, Microsoft, reddit, news media, even interenet providers, who all have the capability of doing so, and have done as well? Not necessarily directed at what our government is doing, but they all have utilized forced notifications. I also find it interesting, you latched onto notifications, Which is pretty much meaningless as I pointed out why above, but appear to have ignored the rest of what Beau said in that video. He he pretty much said what @brycejones and for the most part, what I have said.
Now, lets go back to what Baeu said about the notification, and how users of tik tok found out about the government trying to ban them, and basically bombarded those in Congress with calls to not do so. Which seemed to make them want to speed up the process. That highlights the reason the government wants them sold or banned, but not for the reason you think. It's not that they sent out a notification, it's the fact that they told on the government. As the government was going to do it quietly, without us knowing, just like many laws they have passed without our knowledge, until it's to late. That's why the government wants them sold. Because at this current time, they can't stop those on tik tok, or tik tok themselves, from telling the truth about the shady shit our government is doing, that they don't want us to know about, or exposing their lies and manipulation. That is ultimatly and real reason they are going after tik tok. It's a threat to those in power, and interfers with them being able to control us as easily, and makes it more difficult for them to keep things from the US citizens, that we should know.
The common sense you seem to be lacking, and or not applying to all the other US companies, specially social Media? If you step back and apply common sense, you will realize Tik Tok is the least of the problems where China is concerned.Shit dude. None of this is going anywhere without common sense.
Actually yes. There is a lot of stuff that comes out about OUR government and large corporations, that is censored and/or removed on US based social media, on many different topics. What we see on US media is generally what what the government and large corporations wants us to hear.Does it? Really? Is there some special thing happening on Tik Tok that couldn't also happen on many other internet platforms that the US government is not trying to ban? Can you provide any examples? What's happening on Tik Tok that couldn't happen on Mastodon, or Discord, etc?

Are you saying there is no free press in the US?Actually yes. There is a lot of stuff that comes out about OUR government and large corporations, that is censored and/or removed on US based social media, on many different topics. What we see on US media is generally what what the government and large corporations wants us to hear.
People talk about th pressure the US government can and does put on US companies, not realizing the extent of that pressure that is directed at preventing the US population from finding things out about our government and large corporations, that they do not want us to know.
This topic is a good example. Why do you think the government wants Tik Tok sold to a US company or banned? So they have the ability to silence those they don't want heard. It has nothing to do with national security, protecting our privacy, data mining. Just about any topic can be used as an example: immigration, politics, economy, energy, inflation, oil/gas, legislation.. you name it. What we get from US companies is what they want us to hear, which is full of half truths and manipulation of facts a lot of the time.
People talk a out mis/dis information. Our government is the largest producer of such.
