Has the Macbook Pro (Mid 2009) problems with SSDs?

I went with a OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 240GB SSD back when they came out.... end of May and have been extremely happy with it. No issues after awake from sleep and performance is great. I spend a lot of time inside VMs and there's a huge performance boost there. But I have a late 2008 MBP.

should be good, you need capacity mostly, and since its not going to be for daily use, ie lots of random writes so it won't matter. get what'll fit your size needs.

it shouldn't, raid 0 and 1 are pretty basic, so there's nothing fancy needed on the stardom controller, and since the random read of both drives isn't going to exceed 300MBs anyways it'll be fine. Sequential reads and writes are going to be capped at 300MBs (a little under for various reasons)...

One vertex2 drive is close to maxing out sata 3gb/s, so two drives in a raid 0 should do it no problem. But since you're looking for low latency/fast random reads I doubt it'll be pulling 300MB/s constantly. Just a wild guess... 300 tracks * 64KB (audio sample size per second) = 19.2MB/s...

You can just use Disk Utility to format the drive. OS X doesn't have alignment issues with SSDs like XP does, actually neither does vista or win7. Any SATA SSD should show up as a standard SATA drive and for your needs honestly anything big enough with fast random reads should work fine. You...

This is just funny

wow that painful..... imagine how long it'll take to rebuild or expand it! hmmm..... if I did my math right thats 16.4Mb/s. Makes me wonder what kind of verification process format is using or if the raid controller doesn't like sequential writes. --update-- Did some searching.... and didn't...

Intel raid: ICH10R and adding drives to a raid 5

Usually you can grow a raid 5 array when adding drives. But with 2tb drives I'd go raid 6, but it doesn't seem to be an option on the ICH10R, I'm trying to verify that. Since you're going for 5 year life span as opposed to max performance, raid 6 with a battery backed cache is a much much safer...

Is a Drobo the way to go?

So far I like mine, just a regular Drobo 2nd gen, and over firewire800 its plenty fast enough for backups and media storage, but that's all I do with it. Having had to upgrade and move all my music/tv shows/movies twice already I really wasn't comfortable not having at least mirroring and...

WooHoo!! 400GB OWC SSD

Ok, scratch the 400gb there's a OWC 240gb thats big enough to replace my 250gb HDD and doesn't hurt nearly as bad price wise. We'll see how the 7% over provisioning does, but it sounds like sandforce's controller logic might be performing better than they were originally planning if they can...

Easiest, least head-achey way to replace 1 disk out of 3 in raid 0

ghosting is probably the easiest/only solution, a bit time consuming, but there's not really anything else to be done to a failing raid 0. And keep your fingers crossed it doesn't fail during the ghost, depending on how far gone that drive is.

according to http://www.intel.com/products/server/raid/index.htm#raidintegrated all their server based raid is x4 or x8 depending on the card, looks good to me. I'm just used to getting separate raid cards when needing raid 5.
