has anyone watched the new Fallout show?

Just finished it earlier. I've never played the games but I've heard great things. The show got started off so fun. I thought it was really good, The last character we're introduced to is a little wacky but I'll see what they do with them. I'm not even sure if it's related to the game at all. But overall this is a good start to a well-produced dystopian sci-fi series and I love those. And it's got a fun little sense of whimsy to it. And to start, it's working

Just finished Fallout. Great first season.

Anyone who has played the games will love it. Honestly the best TV adaptation of a game nailing the whole world design, story is good too with a good trio of main characters. Overall good casting. Can't wait for season 2.

Shady Sands getting cratered is a big deal. I wonder what happened to the NCR and if they show up in proper force. With next season heading to New Vegas I wonder which time-line is cannon from the games as we saw a bit of Mr.House prewar.

Looks like it might turn into an Enclave, BOS, Vaultec war. Not sure NCR is a main faction anymore.

I'm but a bug!

Finished 3 body problem. Ignorance is indeed bliss. Since I haven't read the books, I found nothing wrong with the story, the cast or anything really. I think everything was done pretty well. All the complaining I read here about it, I was beginning to think it must be a really crappy show. To the contrary, it was one of the better shows of the year.

7/10

Jesus Christ you can binge fallout?

I just assumed it was like the other major streaming releases that were one a week.

Friday nights are usually chill at home nights. It's gonna be fallout and video games!

i finished 3 Body Problem S1. 8/10.

it is an adaptation so huge parts of the characters and settings have changed from the novel apparently. it is from the GoT pair so it is written well enough for any given scene, characters feel real, interesting things happen, and there is dramatic tension at the bigger plot points.

but it starts pretty slow and dry, most of the characters dont find their groove until half way through and by then the bodycount starts incrementing up. there arent many real big emotion feel good beats or really clever plot tricks to wrap your brain around to chew on later, so i dont know if you will ever rewatch bits of it.

i have some nitpicks with the storytelling. some of the things that happen with the san ti dont make sense in the general timeline, and the level of exposition of the tech shadowboxing is a bit lacking. too many characters jumping to specific conclusions before exploring all the possibilities. a lot of new tech pulled out of the butt at very convenient times.

can any of the book readers here comment on if the original story takes on more sinister tones and intellectual depth by being set primarily in china with its autocratic bent.

I am not a fan of the Fallout games at all and just have no interest in basically anything Bethesda puts out, but I watched the first episode last night and loved it. It does make me wish I knew who these characters were now though lol.

The opening scene was freaking awesome. It really set the scene of everything.

I've played most of the fallout games, but not nearly as much as some so I may be wrong... but I'm pretty sure the show doesn't feature any specific characters from the games. Each Fallout game has taken place in different locations around the country and at slightly different times, so I don't even think the games have many (if any) specific characters that carried through. The characters in the show are all different archetypes that we've seen in the games before, but the specific characters themselves are new to everyone. I think I saw a timeline posted somewhere, and the show is set several years after Fallout 4 (the latest game)

I'm not sure how much you know about the fallout games, so excuse me if you already know this: The main character, Lucy (a vault dweller), is the equivalent of who you'd play in any of the games. In each game you start as a generic vault dweller (it's an RPG so it's a custom character), and then something happens that forces you to leave your vault for the first time in your life. Then you're forced to learn how to survive, meet a bunch of people/creatures, etc. The show follows the game format almost perfectly this way

The only thing you're really missing out on is noticing how well done the props and set pieces are compared to the game. It's impressive to see the game items and stuff recreated so well for the show. They're basically Easter eggs, but really show how much effort went into making the show feel right.

I just finished the season and loved it. Much better than I thought a Fallout show would turn out (especially from Amazon... they haven't made a lot of shows I've liked TBH)

Amazon did a good job with Fallout. I think going forward they need more of the same director/writer from the first 3 episodes, there was a slight drop off in the later half of the season, but still finished well.

I think this might also be a show that benefits from a 10-13 episode season, less teleporting, and more time flesh out the various factions would make it overall better.

Walton Goggins is really stealing the spotlight, great casting whoever decided he would be the cowboy/ghoul.

Free Guy (2021) 8/10

Not a gamer so no idea how . . . . ummm, "realistic" it is, but I like the way the story develops. Not that it's any real mystery, but there are enough surprises to make it interesting.

Finished watching the first episode.

Hmmm...I liked it while it was in the vault.

Then outside they shift to the training camp or whatever and the huge bots and then the ghoul makes an appearance and now I'm lost as to what the heck is going on.

I may understand it as it progresses but right now, chances of liking it for me are slim.

Rewatched Predator (1987) - It's quite good. I mean, it's consistently cludgy, but it still works.

I finished the live action Avatar. The rest of the season didn't get any better. I stand by my 2/10.
I watched the entire anime/animation and I liked it. Then I heard about this and thought 'mmm, IDK.' Thx for the warning.

The cartoon is really good. The Netflix version is not. I can see why the show creators walked away from the project. I don't think I can point out a single change that Netflix made which resulted is a better show; every deviation was for the worse. I also found several of the casting choices to not be to my liking, though a couple were quite good.

I watched episode 1 of Fallout. It was OK, not great. I've played some of Fallout 4 (though never finished it) so I have some passing familiarity with the story but my wife had no idea what was going on and needed a 5 minute primer on the backstory. I'm hoping it gets better but I've seen some indications that it doesn't, which is a disappointment.

I also have 2 episodes of Fallout left and I think it's fantastic.

I do not like the games at all (nor anything Bethesda, just not my type of games) and don't really know anything about the games or anything, and I am loving it. I like the actual game tropes they are using throughout as well.

It completely grabbed me from the very opening scene.

Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning was actually pretty damn good. For all the whiz-bang stunts, special effects and (IMHO) over reliance on in-universe gadgetry, the characters, twists, and spycraft elements made this closer to the original MI than previous installments by a large margin. Eagerly awaiting part deux

I can't remember if I rated The Bear or just posted that I'm watching it but I really like the show. IMO the writing is top notch and the acting is really well done. There's a "but" though for me. There's just a lot of yelling lol. I'm constantly having to adjust the volume because sometimes there's just "normal" conversation, then there's yelling while having a conversation or just flat out yelling. I'm not sure if that's a Chicago thing (takes place in Chicago) to talk really loud and constantly yell at each other or what. I've got 4 more episodes left for S2 but enjoying it so far. 8/10 IMO.

Finally got through Secret Invasion. I didn't think it was as bad as most reviewers said it was, but it wasn't by any means very good. I do have to commend the makeup artists because somehow they managed to make Emelia Clarke look something other than gorgeous.

Absolutely great show so far. From having worked in the restaurant business a bit, mostly back in the day and mostly as a server, many kitchens are loud screaming shit shows. Well, busy kitchens. It's like organized chaos in there when it's busy and there's a lot of yelling and screaming, and I'm surprised not as many near fatal accidents as one would think, because it gets bananas in a lot of those kitchens - and in big cities where space is at a premium, like NYC, they are not often big spacious kitchens so it makes things nuttier.

But also, in addition to that, you have Richie in there who is basically not just a yeller but also one that inspires lots of yelling.
