But Hope Hicks testimony. Everything goes through the orange monkey. She talked to Cohen and Pecker many times during the time in question. But just like the executive secretary last week, Hope also complimented the work ethic of the orange monkey.

When Trump read the transcript of the tape, he said, “That doesn’t sound like something I would say,” Hicks testified.

I assume Trump looked at the transcript then his eyes glazed over, rendering the thing incomprehensible, and pulled “doesn’t sound like [me]” out of his ass.

It's interesting that Trump hasn't attacked Pecker the same way he's attacked Cohen. Maybe he still might need Pecker for the next election?

Trump purposely mischaracterized the gag order as “not allowing me to testify” (paraphrased). Even worse, he confirms this with his lawyer who NODS:

I’d bet his lawyers told him this to keep him off the stand. He just can't stop lying every 5 minutes

Trump needs to have a discussion with the judge, where he is asked “Did you direct a staff member to make a post about the jury? We have already spoken with this staff member, so answer carefully.”

The judge also needs to ask Trump again if he understands the gag order. If Trump answers in the affirmative, ask him why he then mischaracterized the gag order as preventing him from testifying. Make Trump repeat the words out loud for the court to hear: “The gag order does not prevent me from testifying. The gag order does not prevent me from testifying.”
Eventually the entire trial can be made up of the judge arguing with Trump over what he's allowed to say.

I suppose the existence of this thread means that Trump isn't in a nursing home or jail yet. Disappointing.

None of the law experts I've read/watched think this trial was ever likely to result in jail time. It technically could, but according to what I've read these charges typically don't.

Unfortunately it may be the only one that finishes before the election.

Still, if he's found guilty, voting for "Donald Trump, convicted felon" might be too much for some mushy middlers who will decide this election.

First the poopy diapers, then the incoherent babbling; it will all happen sooner than later.

Not sure on the actual origin of this quote (or any derivation of it) but I've found it accurate more often than not.
Who lives his or her life with the wisdom we find all around us? Que Sera, Sera Why do religions teach faith that all is will in God's hands? Why do the Buddhists chant 'form is here emptiness, emptiness form' ?

well I mean...technically that's always going to be true if you are one to believe in destiny/fate. No matter what you decide, it will always be the same in the end. One simply mistakes their perceived destiny in an attempt to avoid it, for the one that actually is.

Its so fucking cliché yet been found to be one of truest statements of being; it's not about the destination it's about the journey.

Screw the destination, just go forth and be excellent and outstanding on the journey dude.

The point is, you wouldn't have met that destiny had you not attempted to avoid it. This is true in the movie, but I've found it true in life, again and again.

Trump is used to throwing money (his or someone's) at problems, and anything still there he sues. He's launched over 3000 lawsuits--what is more modern American than that. I know I love it when my hero's solution is litigation.

He happened to step into deeper waters with more exposure (politics) and it remains to be seen how that approach works. It's definitely cost someone a lot of money so far... If he gets elected, we'll never find out how those other trials might have gone though...

I know the howling from the right would be insane but seeing him shipped off to Rikers for the duration of the trial would be worth it.

He's been warned. Conservatives can't complain. I mean, they will, but it would be entirely meritless.

After all, I thought they were big fans of "just comply and you'll be fine"!

Merchan also said plainly what we all have seen all along--that because he's the ex-president, and possible next president, that he (Merchan) does not *want* to put him in jail. That the fines are not working as a deterrent.
“I’ll find you in criminal contempt for the tenth time,” Merchan said in a stark tone. “It appears that the $1,000 fines are not serving as a deterrent. Therefore, going forward, this court will have to consider a jail sanction. Mr. Trump, it’s important to understand the last thing I was to do is put you in jail. You are the former president of the United States, and possibly the next one as well.”

“To take that step would be disruptive to these proceedings… I also worry about the people who would have to executive that sanction: the court officers… the Secret Service detail and others. I worry about them... I’m also aware of concerns about the broader implications of that jail sanction. The magnitude of that decision is not lost on me. But at the end of the day, I have a job to do, and that job is to protect the dignity of the judicial system,” Merchan said.

Trump’s incessant outbursts and violent rhetoric outside the courtroom, Merchan stressed, “constitute a direct attack on the rule of law. I cannot allow that to continue. So as much as I do not want to impose that jail sanction... I want you to understand that I will if necessary and appropriate.”

If Trump continues defying, it'll be clear that he wants to be put in jail as a way to drum up support.

And then we will see if the political instincts that his dementia-addled mind comes up with are any good. I don’t think purposely going to jail like an unstable impulsive idiot is a good look to anyone not already in the cult.

Getting sent to jail rallies the base. Not so sure about the average undecided voter. Seems a better than even chance he is also convicted in the end.

You can't keep violating the gag order with no effective punishment. At some point you gotta call the bluff. For now trump is shitting all over the judicial system with impunity
I’m pretty confident the judge will. At this point I fully expect Trump to spend some nights in jail. No idea how many though.

I wonder if has occurred to Trump that respected folks who went to jail as a result of civil disobedience had a cause more noble than trying to get a way with fraud? Those folks aren't respected for going to jail. They are respected for bringing just changes to our system of governance. Also, none of those folks enjoyed their jail stays?

I don't think they can just up the fines, not without changing the law in NY at least. A quick google:

New York law allows fines of up to $1,000 or jail time of up to 30 days for violating a court-imposed gag order

Trump lives in "Trump reality", where what is true is what he says at the moment. He's a never-ending font of bs, hell he's now saying he can't testify due the gag orders. There is zero evidence for this, the judge has publicly refuted it, yet he continues to say it because he knows his worshippers will believe him, not facts in the actual reality.

it would be hilarious if he wasn't an actual threat to become President again, the crap he says right out of Monty Python.

As to how he'll enjoy being in the slammer for a few days, I reckon he won't. Now, if he's allowed to use his phone in there, grab the popcorn because I figure he'll be posting increasingly unhinged crap by the hour.
