I wonder if has occurred to Trump that respected folks who went to jail as a result of civil disobedience had a cause more noble than trying to get a way with fraud? Those folks aren't respected for going to jail. They are respected for bringing just changes to our system of governance. Also, none of those folks enjoyed their jail stays?
Nothing of the sort has ever occurred to the tangerine terrorist! He's incapable of thinking, check that, scheming any further than what will enrich himself or keep his fat orange ass out of jail.

As to how he'll enjoy being in the slammer for a few days, I reckon he won't. Now, if he's allowed to use his phone in there, grab the popcorn because I figure he'll be posting increasingly unhinged crap by the hour.

Given the near non-existent crowd of supporters he's had at the trial I'm not actually certain many people would care who don't work at Fox News, Newsmax, OAN, the opinion section of the NYT, etc.

Mainly I think that, with nothing else to do but post from his phone (again, if that is even permitted), he'd go even more off the rails racking up further contempt charges. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him call for his jihadist legions (suburban crack troops) to come rid him of his oppressors in a violent fashion. He'd be sorely disappointed of course.

Eh, who knows, I've said before my record of predicting Trump's actions is pretty awful.

If there is to be trust from the public about the rule of law then standards and norms must be maintained no matter what the potential outcomes could be. To say that trump shouldn’t be jailed, even though anyone else in his position would have been, is to go against norms and to give preference to trump because of his influence. That doesn’t inspire confidence in the rule of law.

Meh, cult members have a pretty solid track record of not following any of the standards and norms the rest of society deems proper.

I'm equating it to my utter contempt of SCOTUS. Why should I trust those lying fucks?!

I know the howling from the right would be insane but seeing him shipped off to Rikers for the duration of the trial would be worth it.

Likely is not good enough. Have to be very specific about what the limits are and even then he is likely to test whether he'll actually get thrown in jail regardless. I'm not sure whether him being jailed for contempt would be good for him politically (ridiculous to even be in this place), but letting him disrupt the trial without meaningful consequence is untenable regardless.

Wasn't that clearly stated already, by Trump himself? He said it would be a "great honor" to be jailed as a martyr. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/06/trump-being-jailed-for-gag-order-violation-would-be-great-honor.html

No, we just need to make the fines actually hurt. Measly $1000 fines won't do a thing but help Trump.
Yeah, the orange bloviate says he will be martyr in jail but he is full of orange shit. Put the clown in timeout and any of their other orange wannabe turds in too if they cause disruption.

The guy is a civilian, and running for public office gives you absolutely no immunity in a criminal trial for acting indecently. I wish Biden would revoke his secret service protection via executive order, and let the orange shitstain feel vulnerable for the rest of his miserable existence.

He can’t, it’s a law.

I know, but he can do other things such as revoke his security clearance etc. Just wishful thinking.

The President doesn't actually have a clearance to revoke.

Biden already said that candidate Trump wouldn't get the usual briefings that are given to the party nominees though. Most he can probably do.

Yea, I just googled that. Wasn't sure if it was officially revoked, but his briefings were dropped. Now, as a friggin candidate, running mostly to stay out of jail, he gets to have briefings again.

Hopefully he says some shit about Israel being so nice, and the Muslims needing to be contained or something..

Merchan also said plainly what we all have seen all along--that because he's the ex-president, and possible next president, that he (Merchan) does not *want* to put him in jail. That the fines are not working as a deterrent.

If Trump continues defying, it'll be clear that he wants to be put in jail as a way to drum up support.
Great, put him there, take away all Internet access, and leave him until the trial is concluded. You know, like they would for the rest of us.

And rightly so, the guy is indicted and can't be trusted with any of it.

Presidents are immune to violating the law until SCOTUS decides to rule on it……
This is a widely held misconception. REPUBLICAN presidents are immune to violating the law.

If Biden tried to do this there would be 15 injunctions, including from SCOTUS by the afternoon. If Trump did the same to Biden the fifth circuit would declare Biden retroactively not president and SCOTUS would put it up for careful review in 6-8 months, eventually siding with Biden they he was entitled to secret service protection a few weeks after he was stabbed to death in the shower.

Nah, they would just declare the case moot at that point.

Although I just went and actually read the law. It says former presidents are AUTHORIZED to have secret service protection, not that they just, so Biden really could take it away it seems.

SCOTUS really has ruled against Trump quite a bit, they just do so in a way that serves his interests anyway.

‘Can Congress request tax returns in a way explicitly authorized by law? Let’s think about it for a year.’

‘Can the president murder his political rivals with impunity? Good question. We will need nine months to ponder’
