I bought the Crucial X10 Pro directly from Crucial's website a couple of months back.
First problem is my laptop took 1 min. longer to boot, something was up with that drive that caused it to cause POST delay. Then the drive just failed after I copied all my data to it within a few days...
Encrypting your disk has a big impact on performance by up to 45% ( see: https://www.ghacks.net/2023/10/20/report-bitlocker-slowing-down-ssds-on-windows-11-by-up-to-45/ )
Just got an Alienware m16 R1 (AMD) and it came with 2x WD PC SN820 in RAID 0
Why are there 0 reviews of this SSD online?
I took these benchmarks just in case anyone is interested both in RAID 0 and as a single drive. I am not sure why the Random 4K Read is slower in RAID 0
I contacted at the time of creating this thread telling them that my write speeds are half what they have been when I bought the drive and I barely used it and if there was any firmware update. Their response was they wanted me to send them the SSD to check it meaning I would pay an arm and a...
I have a 4TB My Passport exterrnal HDD, it is not encrypted, I can verify that by looking at the drive in Disk Management. Neither was any WD drive I had owned previously unless I'd intentionally encrypt it which I never do.
@swapjim
Here are the benchmarks from my WD_Black SN850X and SN770M
Love these WD_Black SSDs and I really like the Western Digital Dashboard more than any other SSD utility. It allows easy firmware upgrades even for the boot drive on the fly
Recently bought a Crucial X10 PRO, it made my laptop boot time 15 seconds slower, the laptop would just sit there at the BIOS splash screen for 15 seconds or so before the boot process starts. Boot priority was set to the Windows Boot ?Manager but something was weird with that drive as I never...
I have 2x32GB 5600MHz DDR5 Kingston FURY Impact memory on my Alienware m18 AMD which runs at 5200 MHz only but at a lower CAS Rating of 38 vs 40 as it shows in CPU-Z.
I just saw a post on Reddit from a guy who said:
This got me thinking, what would be better for snapinness/speed, a lower CAS...
I've had a 2T Samsung T5 Portable SSD for 5 year and it had worked like a charm.
I recently purchased a Dell XPS 15 laptop which only has USB Type-C ports but comes with a small Dell USB-C to Type A/HDMI Adapter so I plugged my T5 into it and used it for a while then I unplugged it using the...
I use dBpoweramp for lossless ripping of audio discs and I use Burnaware for making Audio CDs/Video CDs/Data CDs. They have a free version of Burnaware but dBpoweramp is paid (1 time fee for a perpetual license)
From what I know and see SSD utilities such as Crucial Storage Executive and Samsung Magician, they say that overprovisioning should be on the last partition on a disk.
Can you partition such a disk layout which is the factory image on my Alienware m18 by simply shrinking the C: partition...
Can someone help me understand this upscaling better? Is it like for example, if you have a game that won't run so smooth on a graphics card at a specific resolution, let's say Cyberpunk running at 4K, then with nVIDIA's caling technology you can run it at FHD or QHD resolution but still get a...
That's what I have in my laptop, a 2TB and 4TB. The SN850X has excellent real world performance, doesn't overheat and has 0 issues. also the WD SSD Dashboard is much better IMO than Samsung Magician for doing firmware updates on the fly even for the OS drive, monitoring temps and SSD health...
Nope, even that tweak is not doing much apparently. I contacted SK Hynix asking about this and they gave me a general copy/paste answer to ensure I have the latest Windows updates and antivirus, no word about a firmware update.
I ended up removing the drive and putting it aside and switch to...
I have both the SK hynix Platinum P41 and a WD_Black SN850X and they are superb drives with excellent sustained performance. Here are the benchmarks on my laptop (on a desktop they'd perform slightly better even)
https://www.oo-software.com/en/products/oodefrag
Thoughts? Do you think it can actually improve anything in addition to the regular TRIM that the Optimize and Defrag tool built in to Windows does or is this just snake oil?
I can relate, I have an 8 year old Dell Vostro laptop which has a 500GB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD in it. That things takes 8 seconds from the moment you press the power button till you see the desktop screen. On any other NVMe drive on any of the 10s of laptops I've owned since then, it takes 20-30...
I have the SK Hynix Platinum P41, here are the benchmarks on my laptop, the Random 4K Read speed is not impressive as reviews state online (I know they are using desktop computers but still):
SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB
For reference, here are benchmarks on the same laptop for WD SN810 1TB...
I enabled Large System Cache and now my sequential Speeds are fixed, not the random write though according to this thread: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-2000-server/cc938581(v=technet.10)
now my sequential Speeds are fixed
Only about 4TB written to the SSD so far, when I first got it, the performance was:
Now, the write has dropped by about half:
the only difference which I think was different is I was on Windows 11 21H1 when I benchmarked it the first time and now I am on the latest 22H2. The read speeds...
No limit, I have like 150 videos to watch. Also, you can set up multiple locations, by default, there is only WATCH LATER, but when you see a video, you can click on the 3 vertical dots on the bottom right of the video then choose add to playlist and create a playlist if you don't have any.
For...
you do know that YouTube has a magical button on each video called "watch later" that when you click, adds that video to your Watch Later list which you can go through later and watch everything that caught your interest.
I just got his SSD but I am not getting anywhere near the scores of review sites. I am using it on my Alienware m15 R7 laptop which has an AMD CPU and does support PCIe 4 running on Windows 11 22H2 using the default NVMe drivers that come with Windows.
My CrystalDiskMark score =...
I use Affinity Photo, it's a small one time fee for a lifetime license (say no to subscriptions) and is the best Photoshop alternative out there
They also have Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher
I followed this guide:
https://www.howtogeek.com/685777/how-to-create-and-use-an-email-template-in-microsoft-outlook/
I now have the Choose form button but it defaults to: Standard Forms Library
Is there a way to make it default to User Templates in File system to save me a click?
I miss the days when AnandTech used to do more reviews of SSDs. What is the fastest SSD on the market right now?
SK hynix Platinum P41 vs WD Black SN850X vs WD SN810 vs Samsung 980 Pro?
I am more interested in Random 4K Read/Write than sequential numbers
I tune/tweak the laptops that we sell at my company and what I've come to notice recently is that System restore is disabled by default on Windows 11 and these are OEM installs from laptops from the likes of MSI, ASUS, Dell so I always enable it after all the tweaks and updates are done, set a...
