Only about 4TB written to the SSD so far, when I first got it, the performance was:

Now, the write has dropped by about half:

the only difference which I think was different is I was on Windows 11 21H1 when I benchmarked it the first time and now I am on the latest 22H2. The read speeds are the same. What gives?

PS: I even tried using the Samsung NVMe modded drive but that didn't change the write speeds.
Antivirus is disabled while taking the test

Laptop specs are in my signature

Try performing a clean install. You have to start with the basics. I know there are people who like to use the hard drive image software. It doesn't always work. A clean install fixes a bunch of problems. Windows 11 has had a ton of recent major updates that could cause problems with your install.

LargeSystemCache didn't fix the slow write speed.

Something is wrong. My other two NVMe drives, just gen 3, have similar read & write speeds. It's just the P41 down to 1/3 is write speed.

Anyone found this problem and a solution?

Looks like it's stuck in TLC. It's not using the SLC cache for writes. Happens sometimes. Usually I recommend a wipe (sanitize or "secure erase" in some places) to restore operation.

I have a clean install of Win10 on another drive. Same performance.

Numbers to show how bad write has decayed

Any way to see if cache is skipped other than guessing?
You may have a formatting issue or a setting in your bios might be wrong. I would start with resetting your bios to factory default settings. Reboot it a couple of times. Power it down completely. Hold the power button down for 20 seconds. Let it sit for a minute and reboot.

That's getting back to the basics. Report back and see if your performance improves.

Nope, even that tweak is not doing much apparently. I contacted SK Hynix asking about this and they gave me a general copy/paste answer to ensure I have the latest Windows updates and antivirus, no word about a firmware update.

I ended up removing the drive and putting it aside and switch to two WD Black_SN850X (2TB/4TB respectively). I love the WD SSD Dashboard, allows easy firmware updates, temp monitoring, and enabling Game mode for a bit more performance

RMA'd drive. Sent back on a Friday & got replacement on Tues.
(They're in Glendale, CA, not far from me)
Send them Amazon order # & serial number in your first email to save time requesting RMA.

Sequential write is back in the 6500 range.
50c max temp w/ MSI B760 heatsink

QUESTION:
I'm noticing about half the Crystal benchmarks showing 3-4k RND4k Q32T16 and other half much lower like mine.
What's up with that?

Do you have a heatsink on the SSD?
Temperature can GREATLY impact performance on the nVME.
Im gonna take a guess, that by the time crystal mark goes over to write testing, your controller is throttling.

50c max temp. Using heatsink w/ MSI B760 Tomahawk

anothe run just now. 38c baseline. 47c during write ops

yeah im guessing you have a bad controller.

OR your PCI-E slot somehow downgraded to 2x from 4x.

I have a handful of different drives that I've tested and they're just finicky at times. IRL they don't need to be benchmark fast because coders don't make full use of the speed they provide anyway. The speed is just valuable most of the time if you're doing transactional data or bulk data moves. Otherwise they're mostly idle in comparison to their top speed. The highest mine goes is during a game load and even then it's only 150MB/s at most. When testing them though internally they max at 1.5GB/s and externally I can hit upwards of 3.1GB/s in a TB4 enclosure.

So, between the OS and the bus transfers internally they get throttled due to resources. Having them traverse the DMI / PCH knocks them down in speed. With 2 internal drives hitting the PCH slows them down before they even get a chance to thermal throttle.

My P41 Platinum also exhibit similar symptom where the write speed got reduced by half out of the blue. I performed a secure erase using 3rd party tool(SK hynix drive manager doesn't support nvme secure erase) and fresh installation of windows 10 22h2 have fixed the issues. Used a heatsink with the nvme drive so temp shouldn't be a issue so it seems to be some sort of degradation somewhere.

This exact same issue happened to me and when I RMA'd the drive and got a new one the new one was perfectly fine. Now less than 3 months later, the new one is also only writing at 2,200 mb/s. What is going on? (Platinum P41 1TB)
