It's only 27 days away!

This one is always fun, and frustrating. Last year the Marathon project had little to no tasks for the duration, screwing everything up for everyone. The race runs from May 5th to May 19th (my b-day!).

For the newer members, this is one challenging competition. You have a marathon project, which lasts for the whole duration of the race, then you have multiple short term projects thrown in which overlap the marathon project (with names such as Sprint, Swimming, etc), and even worse, some of the short duration projects overlap! So which do you run? Well, it requires researching your opponent, and keeping VERY close track of what they are doing, lol. Obviously the TeAm gets points for how they place in each discipline, and sometimes you have to switch to a different project to keep from losing ground over here......but then you start to lose ground over there, in the one you were sure you had in the bag already!

It drives me crazy, but is so much fun!

Stats. Lot's of stats on this one. SETI.Germany does a great job of providing stats for everyone to see when you can expect to overtake or be overtaken, etc, to help you decide where to put your resources.

Someone needs to get us registered, registration is open.

I'll register the TeAm - as I've done before.
Now the question remains: which project within WCG do we vote for?

WCG, I'd say OpenZika is the favorite around here

GPU's Maybe MilkyWay and GPUGRID

CPU's TN-Grid

My 2 cents anyway.

So, tell me, are we doing the Formula Sprints too, or dropping everything to do this? Just need a game plan.

The Pentathlon is only overlapping with a single Formula Boinc sprint. And there are twenty FB sprints in season 2017.

I'm in for what ever you guys think is the best plan, like I said in the other thread, I don't have a lot of CPU power. I could fire up those Core2Duo's I have on the shelf in the garage. I shut them down when I built Milkyway-1 since I get more RAC for less power consumption.

I'm a little afraid to commit to this one because I would probably need a little more hand holding than normal, which is to say a lot.

That's what I meant by a game plane, PM if it needs to be done. You and I have spent plenty for MW and in the running Einstein, so now the board scrambles. not on my list....

Don't stress. Run what you want when you wish or none at all. This is all for fun and science. If you want to run one of the projects as that fits your personal goals thats great, if not then thats ok too. Some of us like to jump around and enjoy that sort of thing. Others have one or two projects they like and stick to them and thats great.
So do what you wish and it will be respected by all. Any and all contributions no matter how large or small are appreciated.

The fun part with TeAm AnandTech is that all participation in races is strictly voluntary: you run the projects that you like, if it coincides, that is very nice, if not, that is equally appreciated. Why? Simpy because each unit counts towards science and towards fun. Most of us do it for the science, fun, bragging rights and the positive feedback we get.
There are a few TeAm members that jump at the races (I was one of them for quite a few years), but that is the choice of each and every one racer. Now i am crunching for personal goals and not for the honor of being #1 in the TeAm or in a project ... OK, Ok, I've been #1 in the TeAm during some months ...
What surprises me is that in most races we are quite a few racers ... and that we place so high inte lists.

@Orange Kid and @petrusbroder , thanks for the encouraging words! I am finding my re-entry into DC quite enjoyable, but between running a small business and caring for my family, it seems like the Formula BOINC sprints take about as much attention as I can give right now. It could be some of the computing power at my disposal could be lent to the pentathlon, but there would have to be a "team captain" to tell me when and what to do; I simply lack enough free time to do the research, be available at the correct times, and participate fully.

And it did occur to me that my hobbies should be for relieving stress, not contributing to it!

Simplest thing to do is to just run the Marathon project, which lasts for the entire duration. And that helps those that want to skip around on the projects, because they know it's okay to pull out of the Marathon, because we will still have steady points coming in from TeAm members A and B.

May I call you "captain?" Your avatar lends itself well to such an appellation!

We could use someone who is retired to help orchestrate these more complex projects.

For the record, I have no idea what was on my mind when I posted that. I think I had a few too many

If you are eluding to me to be the leader of the band, I appreciate the vote of confidence........but the month of May is shaping up to be a busy one and I'll be out of town for some of the time. So will politely decline. If it wasn't I (the retired one) then look past my foolishness and continue on.
Smoke should be back ashore by then
