Windows API + DirectX sucks. Game developers are too reliant on undocumented "tricks" or workarounds and these break compatibility with future versions of Windows. This is one reason why I love emulators. It's emulating the original hardware almost perfectly so 95% chance that the game will run flawlessly. And you can even use additional visual effects on top if your physical hardware is now 30 to 50 times faster than the emulated hardware.
KOTOR1 and 2 use OpenGL.

I would respond but I think I'll only end up hurting someone's feelings about iGPUs and gaming

Having used so many IGPs over the years, I know their place in gaming better than most.

Ray tracing on integrated graphics, bois.

Technically, yes, but the maker of the video himself admits that he had to make so many compromises to allow RT that he would not play under those conditions.

U.K. Steve makes fun videos, which is all this was. It's not how I'd use RT on that APU. Cyberpunk is the worst game for AMD RT for starters. By only using reflections, I could have gotten a very playable experience with it. I can almost never tell when any of the other RT features in that game are turned on anyways. Aside from it being too dark at times.

Alan Walks 2 crushes many dGPUs and is another bad pick. Enough about that one.

He was using epic G.I. and reflections in Fortnite and still was getting 60fps most of the time with okay visuals from the upscaling. No one competitive turns on any RT in that game so it was also for the LULZ.

The Spiderman games with RT reflections would have been fully enjoyable. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, Control, BF5, Resident Evil 4, Shadow of Tomb Raider, and some others could all be enjoyable enough visually with some RT to play through the whole game. I only use reflections in most titles since it's the only one that jumps out at me.

I'll be using RT on the 8600G when it gets cheaper. I posit that will happen around the time the kids get summer break here in the states. Should be able to grab a board and ram used on a deal between now and then.

I fully acknowledge that and I don't think anyone claims this is "RT-ready", or that it's usable. But that fact that you can switch it on an iGPU is a milestone.

*raises hand* I do. I'll be that guy.

I am 100% positive I can copy the consoles i.e. combine lite RT with DRS/upscaling to produce a fully playable experience good enough to complete the games. The only criteria necessary is to stop acting like the PCMR snobs, and use a 1080 display. I can well understand the complaints on a higher native panel, every step down gets worse and worse. Starting from 1080 helps a lot. If I was not unwillingly to sit in a PC chair for hours at a time, I'd go find a 720p or 900p monitor at the flea market or thrift stores and play more like the Steam Deck res.

So I got an old case from someone to turn into a retro box, and it had a motherboard in it with a socket 370 Celeron. I was googling the model and came across this 25 year old gem from Anandtech.
No AGP slot?!?! No, the CE31-A isn't a step back into 1997, instead it is taking what many analysts call the path of the future, integrated video. Integrating video into the motherboard is something that has been around for quite some time, and it definitely helps cut down on the cost of a system. With Intel pushing for a sub-$600 PC platform in 1999, it's going to take much more than integrated video to push PC's down to that price point. This is where SiS comes in.
