In the case of a company like Nvidia no its not. Nodes are a bit more expensive but just look at what their competitors are doing in terms of tech and node. Compare them to Nvidia's current scheme of super-huge monolithic dies on an architecture that is basically 6 years old with dual issue fp32 bolted on the side.

And that's all without considering the fact that their margins are higher than ever. That literally means prices are going up after things like R&D are factored in.

That's only because of AI... and that may be coming to an end. Jensen said that Blackwell is going to be priced similarly to Hopper is currently (about 30-40k). That despite two dies and double the memory chips. Whether that is because of real or percieved competition or an admission that Blackwell Server is worthless for anything other than AI... we will see.
