Hello,
Was wondering if someone could give me advice. I'm looking to boost my storage space because a lot of new games are requiring SSD drives and my 320GB Samsung is not cutting it. I saw a 1TB Sandisk SSD on Amazon, but I am not sure about the brand. I've never had a drive by them, but I can get the 1 TB at a good price and was wondering if there are any issues people have run in with this brand.
Thank you in Advance.

What TJ said about previous SanDisk problems is true. Haven't heard about any recently but definitely would vet before using any at this point. SanDisk is a Western Digital product.

SanDisk problems
I do use a couple of their USB drives though and haven't had any issues with them. Just the SSD format I'm wary of. I tend to float towards WD but have a variety of brands I'm using for M2 and now using a Kioxia for bulk storage.

These days you have to look at the chips and controllers as well maybe the cache as well.

Thanks to everyone for the advice,
I guess I'll stick to Samsung, thought I would save some money but it doesn't seem to be worth the risk.

IMO they're a cash grab and not the best option anymore.

Give me some specs SATA / M2 and capacity needs along with speeds.... https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/

If you're just using it for bulk storage there's no need to pay the SS markup. There are some Phison controller based options that are considerably cheaper but, the drawback is less DRAM / cache where things will slow down after the initial burst of traffic exhausts the cache. WD has some interesting options with the SN850/SN770 in the M2 realm.

Thank you for the feedback. I mentioned Samsung because Ive had a Samsung SSD with no issues for years as well as Samsung Hard Drives. I already have a 1TB Hard Drive for storage that's more than enough, but newer games require an SSD to play such as Baldur's Gate and Cyberpunk and for example, and even those won't fit on my SSD together because they take so much room.

So, are you using a PC or a Laptop? This makes a difference in which direction to send you on for hunting down storage.

Do you need access 100% of the time or can you move games around when you want to play certain titles? aka do you just need external storage or an internal drive

In my case I have a laptop that has dual NVME M2 sockets allowing for 2 independent drives to be used where most laptops only have a single socket which pushes the price up for more capacity and means migrating data to upgrade the capacity. However my server setup is a full sized PC and allows for unique storage the be installed due to more space and adapters to be used.

The interface will make a difference as well when it comes to options / speed / pricing.

I am running an older desltop build. I don't think I have NVME so I need a SATA SSD like the one I have now. I prefer access 100% of the time to a few games that I am currently playing that require an SSD. The ones that don't, I have on my 1TB Hard Drive. The 320GB Samsung is just not enough. The only other things I run from the SSD is CAD software because it boosts performance.

Well, there are ways to add them using a card in a slot. My thought here is when it's tine for a system upgrade then you can just move it over to the new system. You can get a 2TB NVME these days for around $100 and it will be at least 5X faster than a SATA drive.

A while back, Sandisk had some good SATA drives that were decent but less expensive than the Samsung ones, we used a lot of them at work in simple builds for clients. I believe the popular model was the X400. Now, I am not sure, I suppose the models I am used to are likely discontinued.

If you are looking for a good 1TB SATA SSD, I would usually start by looking at the Crucial MX500.

I've had good luck with the PNY CS 900 drives. I've also used several Samsung drives, 840, 850, and 860. I did have one crucial MX500 die on me but its replacement has been fine too.

I have a stack of about 10 PNY CS900 SSDs sitting here that are bad. I've had terrible luck with anything I've ever bought with Crucial branding. I've had good luck with Samsung, WD and SanDisk.

Sandisk is owned by WD and they are reliable. Mine is about 9 years old as a main drive. I thought they stopped making them maybe it is old stock?
