Are there any apps to hack high speed video on cheaper phones?

A lot of the mid-lower end phones are said to use the same kind of camera in them and I remember a lot of mid range or low priced phones having at least 60fps on 1080 videos a few years ago but some of the more expensive phones can do almost 500 fps at 720 resolutions.
Is this a hardware or software limitation? Is there any way to squeeze some more performance out of lower end phone video cameras?

It may be possible to optimize camera performance to some extent through software tweaks and optimizations, whereas the hardware limitations of lower-end smartphones will ultimately impose constraints on the achievable frame rates and resolutions. For the best video recording performance, consider investing in a higher-end smartphone with more capable camera hardware and software. Strategies such as software updates, third-party camera apps, and rooting/custom ROMs may offer modest improvements, but ultimately this won't give a significant imporvement, you may better consider photoshop in such cases.

What if you just bought a camera with specs meeting your need?

it's already a kludge to use a phone for something a purpose built device can do better, but then to devolve down into low end phones, and then those that can't do the job, then thinking about hacking them to try to make them do it?

it is a hardware limitation i think. while you could do something software wise to get like a couple more FPS, it wont be any standard, so manufacturers go with the nearest standard, like 30fps, 60fps, 25fps. You're effort wont be paid off though.

A camera would probably cost more than the phone and search engines are all full of crap these days so even finding one is a problem.

Maybe go to a camera oriented forum and ask there what to get?

Yes, of course a decent camera costs more than a low end phone. It also tends to keep being used for a lot longer.
