Any new news on this? Last I read the scientist were claiming this might be part of a 200+ year cycle. So Iceland might be magmaland for the next few centuries.

Last news which I read on a German site was from November 16, which mostly repeated what was known before: (a) Magma has collected in a certain tunnel, (b) where it will erupt is not know; could be on land or at the shore, (c) the lava is supposed to have comparably low viscosity (hence, could spread widely easily) but they might nevertheless be able to redirect its flow, e.g. in order to protect a nearby power station.

On November 15, it was reported that already evacuated inhabitants of a town were allowed to return very briefly to their homes to collect belongings, but this operation was cut short due to SO2 pollution of the air.

PS, mean time between volcano eruptions anywhere on Iceland is 5 years or so, in recent years, from what I have heard. I'm not sure though over what period this figure was averaged, as the news item from which I got it gave no source. Whatever the reference period is, the years 2021, 2022, and 2023 should have decreased this mean time because an eruption occurred in each of these years.

The land around the Svartsengi power plant is rising much faster than it did before the earthquake swarm that started on November 10, or about 5.5 times faster. The magma inflow is also about ten times faster.

Iceland is an island off the coast of Europe. Pretty sure if you're just traveling the mainland it wouldn't be an issue if it does blow it's top. Where in Euro are you traveling?

My understanding is a large enough eruption puts a lot of ash into a very large radius around the Volcano, often carried by wind, which is like super bad for plane engines and the survivability if everyone onboard.
