Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could give some help, as gigabyte havnt been helpful at all

Got my new system a few days ago and noticed one major problem, basically any soft reset (using reset button, windows retart or entering bios and exiting) makes the pc reset/restart but it doesnt show video/monitor.. system still boots fine.

I've tried all bios revisions, F3,4,5 and 6.. no help. I have changed settings in bios... no help.

Finally I took it back to the shop and they replaced HDD, Video card, PSU and memory... still the same problem.

I agreed to wait for a bios update from Gigabyte... as I have 1 year warranty I can return it after xmas... esp since i dont reset the computer that much once all the drivers are installed.

Now I noticed another big problem related to the video card... my PCI-E link speed is set at 1x... 2.5gbs bandwidth... I tested 3d Mark and I get 4000 points, which is rather low.

System is e6300 not oc, 7600GT extreme XFX, 1gb Kinston DDR2 530mhz etc... should be at least 5500 as my friend has an identical system...

Im pretty sure the link speed is slowing it down, I tested a few games and this system is not much faster than my old xp2000+ with 6600gt lol!!!

Do i replace the MB? I dont want to be with a slow gaming system over xmas/holiday break

I know one member has posted about a similar problem with his S3.. but I have no way of contacting him.... hope he/she reads this and can asnwer if they replaced the MB with the same S3 or another brand/model.

Thanks in advance,

Yapa

What is the voltage spec for the ram?

Try increasing the volatge for the ram by .2 and the Northbridge by .1

Hello Marlin,

I tried the above suggestion but no fix in either reset problem or PCI-E link width/speed.

Thank though

Not sure then. Mine does what you say when I over clock to far and the board does what you say to reset it back to default. That is why I thought the voltage would help. Have you tried more power to the CPU? I would up all the volatges by the next one over stock. That way it should bot hurt and give you another to try, if you have not already.

Are you running any SCSI, Modems, etc... cards?

Thanks for the quick reply Merlin!

I have not oc the system, its dead stock. Tried putting everything up by .1 volts... no change

Hardly running anything in the system, its pretty basic.

I have the xfx 7600GT extreme, Sound Blaster 5.1 PCI card, one SataII HDD and one LG DVD writer, nothing else.

I'm replacing the kingston ram with Corsair 800mhz tomorrow hopefully but doubt that is the problem.

Ill replace the mb with either another S3 or try the P5B from Asus.

Sound Blaster 5.1 PCI card?!?!?!?!

Have you tried running without that? I have never had good luck with anything creative. Might not be the problem but for my Creative does not go in my systems.

Well just tried taking it out, no change or difference...

I'll let you know how it goes with replacement or a different brand video card.

Thanks for all the help

Update for those wondering what happened... tried everything I could.. all suggestions by Gigabyte too... in the end replaced the MB for an ASUS P5B-E... no problems at all so far with the same components. Must have just been unlucky... but happy with the ASUS

Toro 45, generic one, 17A on 12V and 550W...

The shop where I got the pc also tried a good thermaltake PSU and we had the same problem....

I am curious where you measured the pci express link speed.

Mine shows x16 in pc wizzard but also shows 2.5gb speed.

Must have been a bad board. I'm using E6300 with the P965-S3 and it works great
The newer F8 Bios is out too.
