Optimizing your hard drive helps your computer or laptop to boot up faster and can help your device run smooth. When you defrag your drive, the pieces of files are moved to the location that is contiguous [beside each other] rather than being shattered at different locations. The automatic optimization is turned on by default in the Windows 10 operating system. Besides that, you can also opt to perform the defragmentation manually. Here’s how to perform defragmentation on the hard drive of your computer or a laptop.
Step 1
Open 'Defragment' and 'Optimize Drives App'
From your taskbar, go to search option or click 'Windows' icon and start typing 'Defragment and Optimize Drives'.
Step 2
Click the 'Defragment and Optimize'
Open the 'Defragment and Optimize' app. The Defragment and Optimize app window will appear on the screen.
Step 3
Analyse the 'Hard Drive Partition'
From the 'Defragment and Optimize Drives' app, simply select a drive partition and then click 'Analyse'. Repeat these steps for each drive of your system. The amount of fragmentation will be displayed.
Step 4
Defragment the 'Hard Drive Partition'
From the 'Defragment and Optimize Drives' app, simply select a drive partition and click 'Optimize'. Ensure to optimize the least fragmented drive first. Next, repeat these steps for each fragmented partition of your hard drive. The hard drive partition will be optimized successfully, and it will display 0% relocation.
Now, your hard drive is defragmented successfully and ready to use.
