In addition to the legacy ‘Cascade windows’ option that used to align all the opened windows one over the other showing only their title bar, Windows 10 has another feature called ‘Snap Assist’ that helps you place 4 windows at each corner of your screen.
As the name suggests, Snap Assist automatically snaps the windows to their nearest corner when dragged toward them.
Here’s how you can use Snap Assist to manage the opened windows in Windows 10:
Step 01
Align the first window
Click the title bar of the window you want to align, drag the window to any of the four corners of the screen (bottom-right for this example), and release the mouse button when you see an outline covering 1/4th portion of the area. This resizes the selected window, and places it to the corner you dragged it to. Notice that as soon as the window comes close to the corner, it automatically snaps. This is due to the Snap Assist feature in Windows 10.
Step 02
Align the second window
Repeat the process explained in Step 01 to align the second window. If you place this window above or below the first one covering half the area of the screen, all the other windows are scattered in the remaining half portion and are shown as thumbnails.
Step 03
Align the third window
Click the thumbnail of the third window from the scattered icons in the remaining half area of the screen, and then grab it from the title bar and drag it to your preferred corner. This aligns the third window to the third corner. Doing so covers the 3/4th area of the screen with the windows of your choice, leaving only the 1/4th portion showing the thumbnails of the other opened windows.
Step 04
Align the fourth window
Click the thumbnail of your preferred (fourth) window. This automatically resizes and places the window to the available portion of the screen, thus covering all the four corners with the interfaces of your preferred apps. Once you are done working, you can click the title bar of each of the windows one at a time, and slightly drag them toward the center in order to bring them out of the Snap Assist mode.
