If you’re signed in with a Microsoft account, Windows 10 wouldn’t let you remove your password in order to ensure the security and integrity of your ID and its data. Instead, what you can do is, you can configure Windows in a way so it doesn’t prompt you for a password when you sign in to it. However, this approach is highly discouraged on a computer shared with many people, or on a public PC such as an Internet cafe.
Once you’re sure you want to keep Windows 10 from prompting for your password, here’s how you can configure it to do so:
Step 1
Get to the User Accounts box
Type NETPLWIZ in the Cortana search box and press Enter. This opens the User Accounts box. From here you can create or delete users, manage or reset their password, change their group membership, etc.
Step 2
Choose your account
Click a user account you don’t want Windows to prompt for password. This selects the account. Doing so helps Windows recognize the trusted user, and prompts for your inputs accordingly when you proceed with this configuration.
Step 3
Keep Windows from prompting for password
Uncheck the Users for this computer box, click Apply, enter and then re-enter the current password for the selected user in the Password and Confirm Password fields, and click OK. This sets up the user to sign in automatically when the computer starts, without prompting for the password.
Step 4
Confirm the changes
Click OK when back on the User Accounts box, and restart your PC. This makes the changes you made earlier permanent. Once your computer restarts, notice that Windows automatically signs in to the user account you selected in step 2, and it didn’t even prompt for the password.
Note: For your local account, you can remove the password by selecting the user from the Users for this computer list, clicking Reset Password, and clicking OK on the Reset Password box that opens up next without entering anything in the Password and Confirm Password fields.
