Intel's roadmap already shows the alchemist refresh. I know there are many here who think all 5nm silicon is the same. When battlemage does come out, it will be on the n4 process on the 5nm node. Basically the same silicon that Nvidia is using on the 40 series. The alchemist refresh will be on some variant of TSMC 5nm. Look at the RX 7600 efficiency on the base 5nm silicon. The alchemist refresh should be equal or better than the RX 7600 power usage. We will be able to see how efficient AMD, Nvidia and Intel are when they are all on the same silicon. That is something that none of these leakers or review sites seem to mention.

This is why when every tech tuber says just buy the RX 6600 at $200 and under "stares in intense disagreement" begins.

ARC has better ray tracing and upscaling. Tech tubers also all follow the same script about how RT is unusable at this level. The hell it is. Maybe if you use all of the features, but reflections are the only checkbox some of us use. With a little XeSS or FSR, supported games look and play well enough to enjoy. Significantly better than my 6600&6600XT. Maybe if they stopped looking at it on a 4K monitor they would stop being so critical. Probably not; they are all supremely spoiled.

As to those of you that want to leave reflections to cube mapping, planar, or whatev. Get rekt. 🫶The difference in Spiderman games and Cyberpunk is appreciable. If you think G.I. is better and the RT feature to use? Good for you. I can rarely tell on my setup, and the performance trade off is the worst deal in the history of trade deals. Shadows are often worse and less realistic IMO. It makes me wonder when was the last time these reviewers went outside and observed. Because when they say it's providing more realistic shadows, I SMDH at most of the examples. I go out on my breeze way and look around, and think "The fudge they are". /diatribe

I know it's all a matter of personal taste, eye sight, monitor, etc.

These targeted driver improvements will keep coming. Many more games will feature XeSS support and be better optimized for Intel than what has come before. Gandalf will hopefully seal the deal by selling well and providing even more incentive.

-Any chance of you going back and maybe sampling 3-5 games in the driver with the largest improvements and keeping Intel honest?

I didn't have any trouble with Halo 3 or Combat Evolved Anniversary. Maybe Fall of Reach or another one was on the struggle bus? That, or they are now getting insane FPS well above my frame cap.

I can see how FC5, New Dawn, and TW:Warhammer run now.

Alienware wouldn't stake their reputation on the A770 unless they had concrete evidence that Intel is not abandoning their GPU efforts. I think this confirms at least 3 years of driver updates for the A770? I don't know how long Intel is supposed to support their OEMs using their products with driver updates.

Meteor Lake uses ARC; it will be supported well.

@DAPUNISHER do you own Starfield? If so I’d try out the new update. There were huge performance improvements for Nvidia - I’m getting 15-20% more performance in native 4K.

Curious if Intel Arc received performance improvements from this update as well.

Still not good. Hope they can get a lot out of their optimizations. Otherwise, they'll be lucky to get a convincing performance win over Frontier but it will be at a huge power cost and El Capitan is right around the corner. Still a huge amount of compute power that will certainly be welcome by the scientific research community, but not a good showing for Intel here.

Why ARC "Alchemist" seemingly underperforms theoretical specs:
The article points out ARC has low 1) memory performance 2) difficulty of utilizing memory 3) Fused Multiply throughput is low. Comparable to AMD's Terascale(5850 for one). 4) GPU execution latency is on the high side 5) Cache memory isn't the best either, although not so far behind.
Alchemist's improvements using drivers are limited and will never reach x70 levels despite some expectations, because hardware itself is imbalanced.

The imbalances range from horrible, to in the ballpark but noticeably behind, in almost every area.

Perhaps in some games with heroic amount of driver work it can reach exceptional performance reaching x70 levels. However, the real world demands time as a resource, thus it'll never reach that in average. If in a decade or so, some dedicated private programmer optimizes a game for Alchemist that makes it beat 3070, just like how they are eeking out performance for really old consoles such as the N64.
