Gents (m/f),
I've been eyeballing the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Mainboard for a little while now. (The mainboard brand/type is not that important, just the fact that it supports stock 1333Mhz FSB CPU's). Goal is a 'kickass home server' so most specifically throughput (raid5 with ich9r) is the goal.
My questions:
- Are there any CPUs (other than Xeons) that can do 1333mhz safely (I assume we are entering overclock country), and is this worth it?
- Assuming a 1333Mhz clocked CPU, isn't it true that only 1333Mhz memory will work at its peak efficiency?
And since I dont think any stock-speed 1333Mhz memory exists:
- Is 1066Mhz DDR2 any improvement over 667Mhz DDR2? 667 would be 1:2 which sounds much more efficient than some weird 1:1.25 clock?
- Would perhaps getting a 1066FSB CPU yield a better system paired with 1066 RAM?
And finally:
Will all these 'differences' even matter? Can anyone give me a ballpark overall speed-difference comparing say DDR2-667 ram with DDR2-1066 with (hypothetical) DDR2-1333 when paired with a 1333Mhz CPU?
I'll add a poll for everybody to list what they consider is the best pair! (assuming for a moment money is not a factor, and all pieces of RAM can run at exactly the same CAS/RAS values etc)
