Well now I feel stupid for ordering so many NVMe drives. Honestly, only the gaming drive need be NVMe and I figured the best way ti implement that was with usage of the fastest m.2 connector on that mother board. I had not considered an impact on the GPU. I guess I can re-purpose the other NVMe drives ino something a little less performance-resulting implementation. Let's move on for the moment.

And speaking of GPU, is Zotac a decent option? I was looking at this product directly from them. Its a white 4090 for just under $1700. I wasn't sure if Zotac was in a similar user-experience as Gigabyte in terms of questionable build quality or not. Not 100% sold on the white (desirable/wanted, not needed).

If you ask me for gaming i would of Raid-0 3 x Sata SSD's and saved your PCI-E lanes.
You will saturate SATA 6G with 3 x SSD in R0.
And your load time will be barely noticeable were talking a few seconds at tops here.

And 4TB Sata SSD's are hecka cheap right now on PrimeDay.

Ive only had 1 zotac card ever fail on me, and thats because it was in a very harsh enviorment.
Zotac i consider inferior to MSI.
I don't mind using them, but for a performance build, i would give my honest recommendation at ASUS STRIX or MSI Suprim X.

Keep note, the engineering on these two cards are leagues apart from other AIB's.
You really get what you pay for, and the heat sink construction and thermal pads used are also top notch premium.

But if you see a significantly lower priced Zotac, they are honestly not bad cards.

aigomorla, I feel the same way of Asus. I've been building PCs since 1994. I use to build a new PC on 18-month cycles but when I made the switch to console gaming c.2003-4 that stopped. Now I have not built a new PC in +10 years and things have changed greatly and my catching up on technology is at hand. But back around 1997-2000 I had two instances in which I used Asus motherboards and both had serious technical issues that steered me away from Asus products. In fact it was because of Asus having questionable design and implementation issues that i got hooked on Abit, until they left the market and I then moved to Gigabyte for motherboards. And since 2003-4 I have not had a need for a serious video card so the manufacture was not really a considered point. But those Asus incidents of the past left a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe things have changed? BTW, a white Aus 4090 would be +$2K.

As for lanes, one of the reasons why I waited another two years (until now) was for the newer PCi revision to come into play and making more lanes available. The ASRock Taichi motherboard I am looking at has the following architecture. Maybe I am misinterpreting it and could use some enlightenment. Attached is the sheet from the user manual. I can see where maybe the M.2_1 might infringe on the performance of the PCIe Gen 5 x16 because they both share a direct interface to the CPU, but is that the case? If it is the case then everything infringes with the GPU highway into the CPU and it makes no difference how the NVMe/SSD are setup. Enlightenment is needed here.

i stand corrected.... i did not know this.
Is it only the 4060ti? Im looking at a 3060Ti and its 16x.

It makes absolutely no sense for the Ti to be 8x and the non Ti to be 16x.
Non-ti is obviously not 16x. It uses the same chip. RX 7600 is also 8x.

Okay, its early morning and I am planning on going to MC today or tomorrow. I am going to get a 4090. I decided to look about and do seem to find the occasional buyer complaining about fan noise, but that was pale in comparison to people complaining about being sold what turned out to be open box items and returns and being sold as new. Only one person complained about coil noise and 2-3 people about the fan noise--one admitted fixing the issue using the Gigabyte fan control software. So, that leaves PNY, MSI, Zotac and Asus with prices running from $1610 to $2K at MC. Asus seems to the the forerunner in high pricing, PNY at the cheap end. It is strange that both Zotac and MSI offer competing models within $50 of one another and my inability to discern the differences even after venturing to their websites.

Oh, HEDT? Please educate me.

It's all the same other than which name is on the card. They all use the same core components. There might be some buried little changes such as a different fan or the PCB itself.

This is simply a step up from a consumer board / CPU. Instead of paying $1000 for AMD CPU/MOBO it jumps over $2000 but t unlocks everything for use. Similar to Xeon on the Intel side.

I been hearing bad things about Gigabyte 4090s. It's the cheapest in my country. But thankfully I stayed away from it.

Do you know how badly people would pull out pitchforks and set nvidia to fire if they did this?
They are most definitely physical 16x.
And the RTX 4000 series are all 16x, even down to the 4060.
All 16x physical, but the 4060 is 8x electrical.

I went ahead and picked up the Zotac RTX 4090 Trinity OC. Also got the ASRock X670E Taichi motherboard and G.skill 64GB 6000 C30 memory. I got the Hyte Y60 case but I am still not sure if that is the case I want for the long run.
