I know a ton of people still play on 1080p but who is paying $400 to $500 for a gpu and gaming on 1080p?
2 of the 3 people in my house. When the requirements for Hogwarts Legacy were released I went with the best card that met the specs for as little as possible and gave us some breathing room for future games. That was the 6800XT for $530. We play at 1080p because I'm not ready to replace our monitors. I prefer matching monitors and I have 3 so I'm holding out a little longer.

I think the lack of sales will continue until nVidia releases 40x0 Super cards that will be at least half-way back up the stack to where they should be (at least in my mind). e.g. a 4060 Super could be a 160bit part with 10GB of VRAM, etc for the same $299.

Yep, the 40 series is utter trash. nvidia went all in on the price gouging. Buy AMD, at least it has better performance per dollar. For nvidia lovers, pray that 50 series will be more reasonable.

It's ironic. I'm back to buying used parts just like in my broke college days because I refuse to be price gouged like this.

That's not gonna happen given that both AD106 and AD107 are 128 bit. Even the 4060 Ti's refresh part is still probably AD106 based.

Anyone considering upgrading from 3060 Ti to 4060 Ti 8GB, don't be dumb! Pay the extra $100 for the 16GB. Be wise.

I wouldn't be worried about forum users, it's everyone else that needs a smack upside the head. Maybe someone can make a browser extension that detects if you put an 8 GB card in your cart and won't let you checkout before typing "I understand that I am a schmuck and deserve everything that's going to happen to me." and then having to wait through a four-day cool off period before finalizing the purchase.

I wouldn't call paying $500+tax for a low midrange card that is barely adequate to play at 1440p a wise decision.

Right. Given that it’s likely to scale like a 16GB 3070 would have scaled, you could do worse but that is some very faint praise.

It should address some rough low 1% values when memory was tapped out.

That’s why we were not worthy of the 16GB 3070, this product needed room to exist in the future. That future being now, or early July I suppose.

You sure, with that smaller memory bus? What can we learn about 1440P and 4K scaling, between the RX 5700 versus the RX 6600 (XT).

I expect the large cache to matter as it has for the other smaller but performant bus sizes with Ampere. And the fact the 3070 used some rather slow memory too.

Just as IC has its limits, I am sure there will be scenarios where dumb bandwidth would be preferable to smart caching.

The only thing that looks good in the 4060 line is the energy consumption. The uplift over the 3060 is pathetic. Nvidia is trying to hide behind DLSS 3 for free frames in the 4060 line. The base 4060 should be $199.

FYI, AMD is not equal to Nvidia and they should not be pricing anything close to Nvidia unless they are going to offer more performance. Nvidia has been smoking AMD for years. RDNA 1 was their best attempt to equal Nvidia and they priced their cards correctly.

Then the crypto mining happened. The problem is that crypto is over and both AMD and Nvidia seem to think the extortion prices they were charging should stick around. Demand for GPU's has fallen off a cliff.

I think you guys know I hate Nvidia. I have used Nvidia GPU's since at least 2015 exclusively. I had the original Geforce 256 back in the year 2000.

When will the 6800xt hit $300-$350?

Stolen from elsewhere:

"3050 - 23.8% of full die cores, 276mm², 128-bit bus, 8GB GD6, PCIe4 x8 - $250
4060ti - 23.6% of full die cores, 190mm², 128-bit bus, 16GB GD6, PCIe4 x8 - $500"

Screwy stuff indeed.

So what you are saying is that they are launching the 4050 and 4050ti complete with multiple memory amounts and die cuts but pricing them too high and naming them wrong?

$400/$500 for +15% performance?
No thank you....

The 16GB model seems real nice, but given the burn from the 30 series, I am looking to buy AMD and I will wait for it.

Then good luck waiting, because no one knows when N32 will be released.
