SQLite

From the site:
SQLite is a software library that implements a self-contained, serverless, zero-configuration, transactional SQL database engine. SQLite is the most widely deployed SQL database engine in the world. The source code for SQLite is in the public domain.

I didn't see it mentioned here. It's a C/C++ library, and it's really nice for smaller projects/components where you want to move to something more sophisticated than fread/fwrite to your own files, and a full-fledged DB might be an overkill.

Ahhh, I just got a free diff tool that will scan subdirectories and issue a report between two directory structures. A what has changed type of tool.

It was called CSDIFF and qualifies under "File Utilities"

Thanks for the contri. I've added JCreator with an asterix, due to the fairly significant restrictions on the free version, but it does look like it's worth trying if you're doing Java development.

I've decided against posting Flex Builder. You guys let me know if you think I'm off base here. Tools posted to the list should be free, without significant restrictions. We have MS VS Express, for example, which is limited in functionality but free to all. We also have several tools that are free for "non-commercial" use. However Flex-Builder is not a free version of a product. It is a commercial product being offered free to people in specific circumstances, i.e. college students. As such I didn't think it belonged.

Unfortunately, all things must come to an end. I have run this site for almost seven years as a service to the community, but I can no longer devote the time necessary to keep it running reliably, and especially to combat the recent increase in attempts to use this site for purposes other than sharing snippets of code (spam, ddos attacks, porn url exchange, copyright infringement, etc). Therefore, I have decided to shut the site down.

There should be a free and paid version of each. We use the SmartCVS at work on OSX, I'm pretty sure the Windows version is really similar to the Mac version. I haven't tried the Git/SVN clients yet but I'm sure they're up to the same standards the CVS version is.

PowerExt is a Windows Explorer add-in written in C++. Primarily targeted at programmers, it adds an additional .NET tab to the File Properties dialog. For .NET assemblies (DLLs, EXEs) it can display information such as assembly name, assembly version, public key etc in Explorer.

It's open source and BSD licensed. There are builds for both x86 and x64 editions of Windows available for download.

Jwasm is a Opensource, cross platform, MASM syntax compatible assembler. It supports SSE4 instructions and is under active development. If you want to do assembly, I would suggest using Jwasm as a MASM replacement.

Komodo Edit is the free version of the Komodo IDE. I like it for my perl and Python code, though for some reason it manages to munge up code that I started in TextWrangler for some reason. I suspect tab settings, but I haven't dug deeply into it.
