Will 7AA7 make it to 700,000,000 in this challenge?
Maybe. Just barely.

@Skillz made it to 100,000,000 two hours ago. Gratz! :-)

Edit,

Will 7AA7 make it to 700,000,000 in this challenge?
Here at my place, weather is getting hotter again, which will reduce the GPU core clocks a little.

I shut most of my stuff off a day ago. Just got one rig running right now.

and apparently my internet went down at 12am and didnt come back until 430am. So lost around 4 and a half hours of crunching on it.

edit
We should be called 1AA1 me thinks. No more stuck in 7th all the time.

k0r3 of Antarctic Crunchers tripled his speed¹; might disturb our nice Arithmetic Progression.

________
¹) briefly, as it turns out. Went back to less-than-double speed.

Looks like @TennesseeTony's strategy pans out. :-)

My internet didn't break down during the challenge yet, but to be sure I maintained about ten hours work queue depth on most of my computers. The BOINC client's inability to work out the real task times was a bit of a handicap for the buffer setting. The Duration Correction Factor apparently can't get low enough for CW-Sieve on fastest GPUs. So I used the "Max # of simultaneous PrimeGrid tasks" setting on the PrimeGrid web site for the purpose.

Will 7AA7 make it to 700,000,000 in this challenge?

At least we passed 666,666,666.66 about 6 minutes ago, and none of the other teams are going to get there. :-D

In fact, none of the other teams have made such a figure in any of the past challenges, have they? I browsed through several of the past GFN challenges, and the 2022 WW challenge with its inflated PPD.

Edit: Actually, Antarctic Crunchers cracked this figure once, in the 2021 WW challenge. (We got more than 666M in four challenges now: This one, 10d GFN in 2022, 3d WW in 2022, 10d GFN in 2021.)

No 7 (*10^8) for us. We'll just have to settle for the number 1.

Didn't think it would have been that close. I should have left another rig running to push us into 700M. Oops!

Thanks for the stats, @Ken g6!

So I upgraded some of my GPUs — but I should have upgraded a stand fan (acting as a window fan) and some wimpy floor fans too... I avoided as much as possible to enter the room in which my computers cooked each other.

And yet I am left with a nagging suspicion that there is something odd about 4th place which I haven't noticed yet. It's too obvious that my dear team mates preferred to let me have it. A conspiracy?

Subproject status page: https://www.primegrid.com/stats_cw_sieve.php
Right now (1.6 days into the challenge) it lists [...] 88,267 completed "tasks" [that is, workunits]

At the same time, the sum of the rightmost column at https://www.primegrid.com/challenge/2023_5/top_teams.html is 117,718 results (valid and pending).
(I should have looked at top_users.html instead, because not everybody is affiliated with a team.)

I suppose cleanup will take a while still. However, at this time, https://www.primegrid.com/challenge/2023_5/top_users.html shows 553,016 results in total.

I have no idea how many tasks it takes on average to complete a workunit, but it's obviously >2, of which ≥2 need to yield valid results. If we neglect invalid results, also neglect that workunits with one valid result from before the challenge were completed by another result from within the challenge, and vice versa, workunits were started in the challenge but have yet to be completed by results after the challenge, then we arrive at ≈30,000 workunits completed before the challenge, and results which are equivalent to a bit less than 280,000 workunits delivered during the challenge.

Right now, https://www.primegrid.com/stats_cw_sieve.php shows 316,408 completed workunits. Hence, the challenge did indeed complete about 9 times as many workunits as had been completed between restart of the project and start of the challenge.

Now the question remains how much more the project will need until 'optimum sieving depth' is reached.

I will only admit to doing a bit of virtual "formation flying," calibrating my output to maintain ranking, or really more to keep position in our bloc.

The next PG competition is just around the corner, kicking off in less than 24 hours!

I couldn't wait, so I jumped the gun and began running a few AP27 tasks ahead of schedule.

I'm thinking this one might be a bit of a challenge with the summer heat🔥 , but I'm up for giving it my best shot.

Summer heat here is 105F every day for the next week. And lows around 70F. But I will give it my best.

At my place, there will be episodes of brief but intensive rainfall throughout the next few days. This worries me a little, as I need to keep windows open for cooling but won't be home during the day to watch out for undesirable ingress.

I changed some of my hardware from what I had when we last participated in an AP27 race. So I ran a few test tasks on my different computers. Oh my; Pascal and Lovelace are worlds apart. Still, this being a quick race, I'll enter my older gear too.

The challenge starts 4AM my local time; I'll be soundly asleep and rely on a trained nocturnal monkey to get the boinc clients going.

Shortly after midnight, heavy rain (with some lightning and thunder) started and provided me with much welcome insight into the degree at which I can open windows without getting the computers all wet.

Due to temps here, I can't open the windows, even at 3 am. It will not gewt below 75f at any time in the next week. 106F right now.

I might have picked up a 4090 as well. The 2080Ti was respectably returning a result at about the 9 minute mark....the 4090 is six times faster, at less than 90 seconds.

Unfortunately, the weather forecast in the morning, before I leave for work, is not reliable enough to plan for when heavy rain will occur during the day. Otherwise I might have been able to go home quickly between appointments to switch between high and low airflow modes of my home, and adjust GPUs accordingly. For now it looks like I need to leave the computers in low gear during the whole day, i.e. Pascals powered down entirely, Lovelaces at low board power target, and the windows secured such that rain doesn't enter but airflow is miserable.
