These kinds of revenues, at all the foundries are allowing them to close the process gap with Intel. With Intel's stumble at 10nm it's *possible* that their lead will vanish completly. We won't know for 12 to 18 months, but it should be interesting regardless.

It is basically thanks to price of both main products of Samsung's chip business shooting through the roof during last 12 months. The number of chips Samsung makes is not much bigger than in 2016 or 2015, but they sell it for much more due to shortage-induced high price. In case of DRAM prices, it might even be a product of cartel situation with the other manufacturers.

DRAM will have gone up 64% by this year's end.
Flash will see 33% growth for this year. Note that both these commodities went up significantly already during H2 2016.

It is no wonder Samsung surpassed Intel's revenue with such a crazy boost to the price of the goods they sell. Intel also makes flash and saw rise in that business, but the scale is much smaller (500-850 millions/quarter).

I still remember it like yesterday Intel M2 cache followed by Intel SSD , the stuff to get. We have Optane now, impressive technology but so limited because requirements(which i hope i might be able to use on ryzen stuff in SSD format on consumer level, one day). Was it that hard to predict that flash would end up in everything, demand would skyrocket when it becomes cheap enough and once you go flash or used certain GB/TB, you wont go back.

Sometimes i wonder how Intel board meetings go , we can make money , a lot just not the ridicules kind , cancelled , focus on optane???

Samsung is everywhere these days. Don't they make up like 20% of the South Korean GDP or something crazy?
