Thing is you will need multiple of them for an array. I would say 4 minimum...of course you will want to use mirroring or ZFS RAIDZ1/2 etc.

RAIDZ1 on 30TB drives is very risky. That rebuild time is enough to kill another.

That's pretty crazy. Recently upgraded 2 of my raid arrays bringing me to around 40TB of space. Crazy to think that only 4 of these drives in raid 10 would get me well past that. Or 3 in raid 5 if I'm brave.

It's crazy for consumers to be paying $300+ per drive for spinning rust, but fortunately there are plenty of server pulls available for cheap if you need a RAID array on a modest budget:

EDIT:
To be clear, obviously these won't be $300ish anytime soon. I'm referring to sale prices you're seeing now for 20TB NAS drives, of which you'd need to purchase at least two. Spinning rust is cheap on a per TB basis, but that doesn't help if you don't need 16TB+ in one drive.

Yeah those HC530s from goharddrive are pretty neat, but need to make sure you have the right adapters for your PSU. Something to do with the 3.3V vs 3.5V power pins.

Wow, 450 for 30TB. I remember spending 400 on a 32 Meg drive in the 80s. Megs, not Gig. Freaking MEGS! And it took 20 hours to low-level format.
