Wow, someone really missed the mark there at the studio. either they were extremely optimistic or they decided to publish the early release date with intention of posting a delay later on.

I'm thinking studios are starting to learn that delaying a month or two is just not enough so go big and delay 6+ months.

I don't care how long the game gets pushed back. I just want a polished 1.0 on launch day so the game/developers don't get review-bombed into bankruptcy while spending the following six months patching all the holes in their sinking ship. I understand there's going to be bugs and glitches, but if they can hold off for a while to make sure that all the major issues are fixed before launch, I'm happy with waiting. If this game becomes a success, we might even get a Stalker 3.

who doens't; but i doubt this is what we'll get.

The biggest problem why is that in-house testing can never be as complete as release-to-public testing; don't you know the old adage?

A tester enters a bar. He orders 1 beer.
He orders 2 beers.
He orders 175419,3 beers.
He order -1 beers.
He orders water, whisky, soda.

The game ships.
A customer enters the bar and asks where the toilet is. The bar explodes in flames.

This game will be using Unreal 5. Although they are using a newer version I expect it to be 100 times more polished than their old proprietary X Ray engine which was a buggy mess.

This is why I miss closed betas and I know it'll be at least some kind of dumpster fire when it releases, but I'm just hoping if they get some extra time to do additional testing, it'll be a manageable fire instead of the uncontrolled inferno we usually see on launch day.

ok ok wtf you are making me not want to buy it. Clear Sky was, if i recall correctly, the last physical copy i have ever bought, and what really pissed me off was that GSC/DeepSilver released patch after patch after patch in the early days, and every patch broke the saves, and every patch broke the game in different ways. The game was eventually playable and i completed it, WAY before the community patches, and all that "Complete Edition" stuff. I was quite angry at the time, but i realise that anyone who got the game 3-4 months after launch will have probably enjoyed a relatively stress-free experience.
Also, at the time, i could only compare Stalker to Oblivion for how gorgeous the game looked; on top of that, while oblivion is just a pretty face, Stalker has a "interactive" environment, which is the anomalies. Never mind the day/night cycle, that looks pretty but it's a gimmick. Dodging semi-invisible traps while relying on a crappy detector to find artifacts is a great minigame of its own.

The one critique i can easily raise to the Stalker series (aside from the idiotic punctuation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) is that the 3 games are too similar to each other, with whole maps lifted off previous games. But it's by far one of the best single-player games i have ever player, really up there with FEAR. The guns are great, the monsters are great, i love the anomalies, the eruptions, the art style (but NOT the music), the environments look gorgeous.

Sure the missions were bugged, because they were heavy on the scripting - it's not just a mob spawn trigger. And while i hated it at the time, i love that the devs put in Clear Sky a section where you are quickly shown that you can go that way, but you CAN'T go that way (the machinegun nest at the entrance of cordon). Stalker will kill you without a second thought. Some of the guns were unbalanced yes, early gunplay was bad, but that's half an hour out of 20+ hours of game.

.. also it's a game that loses a lot once you know what you need to do. I played it again some time back and i just rushed the first 2 maps, found the first moron with an AK, put the shotgun to his face and took his AK, then rushed 2 more maps, found the first idiot with a M16 and dumped the AK in his face, then used that M16 to snipe some Monolith and grab a G3 and BAM!, endgame weapon.

It's a lot more fun on your first playthrough, when you first discover new weapons, meet new mobs, see new maps, and i hope, really really hope, that they have NOT YET AGAIN reused the same maps. Obviously i expect that there's gonna be bloodsuckers and AKs but i hope that they bring more than just a new coat of paint.

I'm glad they pushed it back to do things properly. As opposed to groups like Ubisoft and EA who ram their junk thru the doors just to make sales.
HAVING SAID THAT, Steam just stated today its available for pre-order.
I do not like pre-order. Its free money for no product. And sometimes they never deliver. Or they deliver garbage, and you feel bad that you cant get a refund.

[...]the art style (but NOT the music), the environments look gorgeous.

I would mostly agree with this, with one exception: the main theme of SoC, in the main menu. That one theme is absolutely incredible, and captures the sense of mystery from the exclusion zone along with its dread and the history of tragedy and desolation behind it. It's the sort of music that could have (and maybe should have) been heard in the superb 2019 Chernobyl TV show.

But after that yeah, the in-game music is sort of forgettable in comparison. Not sure who composed for SoC, but I have the feeling that the main theme composer(s) were not hired to do the actual game's music per se. It reminds me of DOOM 3 to some degree, wherein the main menu track is fantastic and gets the blood pumping, but once you play the game it's very much forgettable.

There are a few campfire guitar songs that build great atmosphere.

And of course there is also this classic.

The 100 Rads bar music was also great relief to here when coming back from the waste.

Hope this game is good.

The atmosphere in the other STALKER games were unmatched IMO.

I thought Fire Lake's Dirge for the Planet that played on the radio in certain areas was pretty good.

I also liked the sound effects during emissions. They ought to include something similar to the trumpet sounds in Alberta. Man on a winter night in a tent out in the wilderness with that sound going on... that would be one sleepless night. It's like a bear broke into a camper's bottle of hot sauce and is in the process of crapping it out.

Yes they are based out of Kyiv. Hopefully they are safe along with everyone else.

This entire franchise has literally the most insane development history, from terrible work conditions in the early 2000's to now avoiding bombs and Russian invaders. Going to assume this is getting delayed indefinitely.

Politics don't belong here! This of course sucks because either the game will be canceled or postponed for too long.

What sucks is the plight of the Ukrainian people. It belongs here, and you should be ashamed for sweeping it away as unimportant except in it’s inconvenience to your game.

Normally, yes, but considering the developers are in an active warzone right now (or they've fled), this actually impacts the release date of the game. As harsh as it may sound to be speculating and worrying about the release date of a video game while a war has just broken out, this does belong in this specific thread because the war has impacted this specific game.

there's a solid chance they have been conscripted.
It makes me realize how self-centered i am, to hope that they don't die so that i can get my videgame.
