Also, how exactly do the trojans work? Do they just replicate completed blocks several times over or does it just send bogus information??

Scraper, I've submitted an e-mail adress too, for the same purpose.
There's only about 32blocks a day on this adress, so well just have to wait. (Might be for ever if the Ph F wants to keep it all a big secret though )

Have fun y'all!

Uhhh, why does the PhF not read the DPC forum?

Same reason I don't, we don't know Dutch.

Delusional paranoia setting in but hear me out:
I was trying to break my own record a few days ago and was watching the stats closely (RC5 junkie). Was mainly looking at the mika stats page since it is a resonable reflection of how I will do on the official Dnet stats.

Anyway, was absolutely positive that I and the other 2 cracking with me were gonna surpass our record easily. The Mika stats showed us that we had but the official stats showed us BELOW our previous record and has been ever since. There is a slight discrepancy between the stats. I'm aware that the mika server resets new day stats before the official one does. But it just hasn't been jiving lately.

could a Trojan, if it really is one, be from the 'new' Athlon version that many AMD users are grabbing? I grabbed it when I first heard it was "out" but not from the Dnet page. I grabbed from a fellow who got his from someone, who got his from someone else...........and so on.
So, could this be a possible culprit??

HMM...good question. How many people who are getting blocks from PhF are also using the NEW client and running an Athlon somewhere in their herd? Show of hands, please.

Heres what I think is going down:

1.
JJ650 -
What *might* be happeneing is someone is "skimming" a few blocks from each person who flushes and takes those for themselves.

2.
Since this is when most schools and colleges are getting out, couldnt the PhF be running the client on all a college's/school's computers?
My HS where i just graduated from has 300+ P2 machines.
One can only imagne the kind of computing power an entire college might have, esp a large one -U of Washington fr example (Im going there in the fall!)

3.
We are all crazy

4.
This is all a dream

Not I. No Athlons, only 1 PC has newest client. And I've been getting blocks since around the 2nd of June, and it keeps going up some. Yesterday I did 5K on Mika, 36K on DNET. 31K thanks to PhF.

No Athlons in my herd. The only clients I'm running came straight from the DNET website (a couple have the new, .zip only version).

As for the suggestion that I was the PhF to stop, I see no reason to do that. My goal is to help the team. If I have been chosen to receive a gift from someone (a gift I never asked for) and the gift helps the team, I see no reason why I should stop.

DNET knows about the concerns people have (as has been posted a few times). If there is some sort of problem, I'm sure that they will eventually get to the bottom of it. Until then, I'm going to enjoy my rise in the stats <grin>.

Was just a thought I had about the new client version. Ya never know.

But I haven't experienced any gain, if anything I have lost some.

Like I said...delusional paranoia

JJ650, you or one of your friends must have been cracking some randoms, or you flushed just before the statsrun.

Michael - Cool.
It would be good if there was somebody uncomfortable with getting the blocks that they speak up and say so.

It would go a long way towards killing off the uncontrollable trojan theory if somebody was able to have the tap turned off.

The team would be able to sleep a little more comfortably knowing there was less likelihood of losing the blocks so far gained.
It might make a few DPC's die in frustration however. It's getting to the point that many DPC's seem to be part of this team anyway. We're all getting on so famously, that in celebration, I'm waiting for cooler weather so I can pull on that old Andorra coat that my mum knitted! I don't wear it too often, it tickles a tad!

Well, I'm speaking up......

It seems that I received extra blocks, and I don't want them:| The post I had earlier was a JOKE and has been edited to reflect that...

pf, go away! I'll do it fair, or not at all!!!!! That's also the way I feel about the team! If you are a legit person who wants to help TA anonymously, that's OK, but if you are a trojan......get lost!:|

A nice gesture, but please give to someone else!!!!

Dantoo -=> ROLFMAO Twice! Damn, that's a good one! :') I have tears in my eyes!

And ehr well, I'm still not sure about wether to say it's a trojan or a "real" person. Sure he (or she!) reads this every day and well it wouldn't even be strange if he/she is "subscribed to this thread".

So maybe we ought to look at the first few whom posted here... But well hey that's just a guess... (And maybe you can subscribe without posting, I don't know.)

Guess we'll all have to way untill Distributed has an answer for us.

Phantom Flusher, you have been hitting me pretty hard. But, as you can see, if you read this thread like I think you do, it is causing dissention in the ranks.

If you are trying to help Team AnandTech, send me an e-mail explaining who you are and why you are doing this. It's in my profile. I will not reveal your identity to the Forum, to DNet, or to anyone else other than to re-assure TA members that we aren't going to get in trouble for Trojan activity.

If you are giving us blocks to get us disqualified or just to cause hate-and-discontent, then I doubt that a "please stop" will help.

It could be another hacked client, some of you long time RC5'ers might remember Blackrod who hacked the client and could create thousands of "legit" blocks in a short time.

That way it wouldnt need to be a trojan with lots of computers that are "remote controlled", just a few pc's creating as many blocks as they liked, of course then they are more likely to come from one ip address, but I'm sure DNet have this under control.

For the processing power, i've seen some supercomputers who can very easily crack this amount of rc5 packets. Par example: In Amsterdam there is one, with more than 2000 processors onboard.. Or maybe it's a Cray System.
