You sure it's not Windows 11? Maybe try with Windows 10.

There's also this: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-issues-fix-and-workaround-for-ftpm-stuttering-issues
Thanks! Not going back to Win10, or buying a accessory TPM device. So I’ll try to sus it out over the next week or so within my return window hoping to resolve it. I really thought AMD drivers had come further along than this. This is such a fundamental system problem I can’t hardly believe it has been fixed already. I’ll check the current AGESA versions for availability BIOSes for my mobo.

I am running Windows 10 fTPM disabled with 5800X3D / 7900 XTX. There is no noticeable stutter in any of the games I've played. It could be a lucky selection of games but I feel good about not upgrading to Windows 11.

I'm also using Win 10 and 5800X3D / 7900 XTX combo TPM is enabled but i'm using an External module and not firmware based from cpu.

Picked up the External due to this issue when moving from a 5800X to 5800X3D with TPM.

My current BIOS has AGESA 1208. 1207 and later are supposed to fix this problem. Maybe just (un)lucky. Spending 8 hours reinstalling Win10, my apps, utilities and configuring it all seems like a major PITA to me. My Win10 backups have been purged, it’s been quite a while, plus I actually prefer Win11.

I wonder if this update will help with high refresh 1440p monitors, like mine. I guess I will try and see.

Install on a spare drive to rule out Win11 being the source of the issue. Shouldn't take more than a couple hours, including installing the games and testing them.

Okay. Uh. It looks like it has 'magically' fixed itself. Not sure what happened since I don't let windows updates or drivers install without my say so.

Annoyingly, the same card is currently on sale for $95 less than I paid for it just 10 days later - LOL! Amazon doesn't have a price guarantee that I know of, boohoo.

If it's in the return window they have price matched me (with credit) before. Worth a shot anyhow

And also lol at magically fixing itself. Just AMD (or maybe Windows 11) things.

Hmm, no go on Amazon. Apparently it has been discontinued except for pre-orders. Found a couple of sites that show how to do it, but the selections they showed don’t even exist. C'est la vie.

I think windows updating the drivers even when you turn it off is more of a windows 11 issue.

haven't seen that issue once still on win 10.

Windows update is possibly broken on Win11.

Tried updating drivers on Dell Latitude 3520. Everything installed except all of Intel drivers. When I clicked Download and Install, it tried and quickly went back to Download and Install button. Repeated tries said download failed. What? Intel didn't pay their bandwidth fees or something?

Then did the same on Dell Latitude 3420. Everything went without a hitch.

Tried to update a second 3420. Again, same issue. All Intel drivers got stuck on Download and Install button.

Pathetic OS experience.

Well, more problems. I'll just say RDNA3 + AM4 + Win11 is a PITA. New ASUS RTX 4070Ti OC just came in yesterday. Too bad, the performance and image quality of the 7900XT was excellent, and the XFX card was very well built. Thanks for the help guys - see you around elsewhere on the forum

Doesn't matter to me, it's gotta last me til Zen 6 anyway and who knows how long that will be?
Zen 5 will be out in 2024. So probably 2025/2026 for Zen 6

But the bigger question is will Zen 6 still be AM5 I hope so.

Who knows? I'll need a new video card by then in any case. 7900XTX is . . . nice but let's face it, I would rather have had the chance to buy an RDNA3+ flagship card.

I wouldn't bother with that incremental upgrade.

i'm on a 7900XTX and the next step is RDNA 4.

I only do upgrades when there is minimum 30%( prefer 50%) uplift in performance.

Just like i'm skipping Zen 4 and Going Zen 3 to 5.

I would, I'm going from a Radeon VII to the 7900XTX and camping on that for 2-3 years minimum. If I had been able to get a 7950XTX or whatever instead, with a lot of bugfixes (because RDNA3 clearly has some flaws), I would have been much happier with that product. And waiting for RDNA4 was not an option.

Radeon VII to 7900XTX is not an incremental upgrade

Why are you so adverse to the 6950XT? This may be a controversial opinion but in my view it’s the best GPU Radeon has ever developed.

There’s issues with Navi31 where it has issues reaching certain P-States under lighter gaming loads and still has the multi monitor bug. Depending on the game / workload it could also be more efficient for this reason. RDNA2 is in my view a much better architecture.

I would also recommend a 4080 or 4090 but I’m guessing you’re not willing to consider Nvidia.

6950XT is a great card and good value. But he already has a 7900 XTX, so he is set for a while I think. Drivers should improve over time. The only potential upgrade for him at this time is a 4090, and IDK how he feels about the new melty connector. I would probably wait for RDNA4 or the next gen Geforce if I were him.

Apologies, I thought he was still waiting to purchase a GPU. I should've went back to the previous page.

It isn't, which is my point. If I knew AMD was committed to an RDNA3+ product this summer then I would never have invested in the 7900XTX. It would have been worth it for me. Maybe I'll take a whack at the thing tomorrow. So lazy/busy though urgh. Plus having to tear down the old machine will bring a tear to my eye.
