Why are all rpg's about midevil stuff?

Why do all rpg's have to be about midevil stuff? Am I the only one who would like to see another FF7 or Xenogears come out? What made me like these games were there fantasy-ish worlds, but that didn't mean castles and mages and all kinds of stupid names to give the people. Does anyone know any good rpg's for the PC that aren't based in a midevil time? I've yet to see one.

Ever play any of the Fallout games? Great RPG games that aren't midevil. It's set in a post-apocolyptic future, with great guns, a good story line and cool places to visit.

Try Fallout . . . Fallout 2 . . . System Shock 1 & 2 . . . heck, how about Wasteland? That's an oldy . . . umm.

There were a couple flat-out awesome games on my Commie 64 . . . one was a Buck Rodgers port into the AD&D gold box series, so it had the same sort of gameplay as Curse of the Azure Bonds, Pool of Radiance, etc. Another was one was Centuari Project or something like that; it was made by the guys who made the original Bard's Tale (anybody remember those games?) and you could import your BT characters into Centauri, which was kind of weird.

yeAH fallout is good.. my friend used to have some kind of crack for FO2.
he never died..lol

Fallout 1 &amp; 2, System Shock 1 &amp; 2, and the X-Com series are all futuristic based RPG games.

Other than that, the medieval setting is just a very common, and well liked setting by many a gamers. If it hadn't been for Dungeons and Dragons, RPG's would probably never had gone mainstream.

As for your oldtimer paper based RPG's, Cyberpunk and Shadow Warrior were the be-all, end-all of futuristic RPG's.

There is RPG-esque character development in both Fallout and System Shock. You decide on the aspects of your character to emphasize and specialize in, and this effects your gaming experience.

Also I may add that the medieval, magical and battle based landscape offers a very accomidating model for an RPG to grow on.

The old Traveller games were pretty funky too

Try Earthbound for SNES or if you really wanna play it on a pc get an emulator... That game kicked so much ass and it was set at present time! PM if you need help

Bioware, the makers of the Baldur's Gate series, is working on an RPG based in the Star Wars universe! How cool will that be? The good gameplay of BG, made by Bioware, set in Star Wars, awesome. Its called Knights of the Old Republic and is set 4000 years before the time of the films, I sure hope the technology is there at that time!

Like others have said, checkout Fallout 1 &amp; 2. These are definately RPG's. Make sure you play Fallout 1 first, as you will understand a lot of the references better in Fallout 2.

Try Septera Core. Its pretty good. I don't think many people have played it, so I'm probably going to be the only one saying try it on this thread.
