Question Why do the colors look washed out when I switch to 4K ?

Like the topic title say,i don't understand why colors are limited when i switch to 3840x2160.Output color format is 4:2:0,Output dinamic range is Limited.But when i switch to FUll HD or even 2k resolution,output color is 4:4:4 Full.Only on 4k is limited

is really weird.With this adapter i have 4k 60 hz signal with full chroma 4:4:4 RGB.If i connect through HDMI i have only limited chroma 4:2:0,and my rtx 2080ti have hdmi 2.0,my TV have hdmi 2.0 too ......

Display Ports is better than HDMI?But in my knowledge HDMI 2.0 have same quality digital image like Display Port 1.2,only difference is DP have 20 pin conector and HDMI have 19 pin......but same quality image.

why with this adapter is working 4k 60hz with Full chroma ??



I don't understand nothing...

In your GPU control panel. Washed out colors means you are running limited dynamic range. You need full dynamic range and the only way to make this happen usually is running RGB instead of 4:4:4

It isn't your drivers, but either your cable or the ports (on either your graphics card or the display or both). The HDMI port on the 2080 Ti is only HDMI 2.0, which means it doesn't have the bandwidth for 4k 4:4:4 (you need HDMI 2.1 for that). Your best bet is to use the display port connections which are DP 1.4a, with 32gbps bandwidth, vs that HDMI 2.0 with only 18gbps bandwidth.

I suspect that the DP -> HDMI adaptor that you posted is limited in framerate (don't go by what the benchmark or driver config says it is doing, but by measuring the actual rate on the display using a high speed camera). Since it is an external converter, it may be changing things to simply fit within it's own bandwidth limitations and isn't reporting that back up the chain to the graphics card (DP 1.2 is still 21.6gbps which is still higher than HDMI 2.0 so even if the converter you have is dropping things, it can perform better than the HDMI 2.0 will).

Washed out colors is a mismatch between the color range that the GPU is outputting and what the display is expecting. YCbCr will always be limited range. RGB can be full or limited. There is no such thing as RGB 4:4:4 or 4:4:4 RGB though that notation is sometimes used to indicate RGB format with full range. Dynamic range is separate from chroma subsampling, so that notation is erroneous or at least misleading.

Displayport 1.2 has more bandwidth than HDMI 2.0. Displayport might make Nvidia Control Panel play nicer than with HDMI on some fringe cases where the required bandwidth is close to the design allowable limit on HDMI. HDMI 2.0 with the correct cable should be able to handle uncompressed color at 4K60 8bpc.

At 8-bit color depth there shouldn't be a notable difference in the final output between full or limited range in most cases as long as both the GPU and display are matched - if you output full then set the display to full, if you output limited then set the display to limited. Desktop usage should preferably use RGB output for text, and movies should use YCbCr. Games can be a bit in-between, probably preferable to use RGB but it may not make as observable a difference as the other cases.

If your content or applications support High Dynamic Range (HDR), ensure that the appropriate color space and HDR settings are enabled. HDR can enhance color reproduction and provide a wider range of vibrant colors. Check the settings of your display and content to ensure HDR is properly enabled if desired.

Could be a limitation of 2080. I've tried both 3090 and RX 6800 with HDMI and had no color issues. HDR worked as expected.

If the display port adapter is giving you the desired result, shouldn't it be enough?

Used to have a 2080 and a 4k 60hz TV w/HDMI 2.0. Years ago when installing new drivers, it would sometimes default to limited range and all I had to do was set it to "full" and problem solved. The limit I could achieve with HDMI 2.0 on was 4:4:4, 60hz and 8-bit on 4k.
