Only available from one B&M retailer on the planet. Worse yet, there are only 26 locations or so. It's a neat product but has had almost zero impact on the DIY scene.
On the other hand, AM4 install base is massive and keeps growing. Personally, feels like 5800X3D is akin to 9900K - best gaming chip on a socket that has seen massive adoption, but loses to much cheaper stuff on a newer socket.
Ryzen 5 7500F is half the price of 5800X3D, and they perform similar
This is why I dislike average fps charts. 2 of the big wins for the AM5 6 core in comparisons I've seen, are usually CSGO and Cyberpunk. CSGO is gone and Cyberpunk has changed since the major updates. In GN's tests the 3D is now faster than the 7600X never mind the 7500f. In fact, in GN's small suite the 3D is the clear winner. It also beats the entire non 3D AM5 line up is some titles. On an nearly 8yr old socket (AM4 released in 2016). From my perspective, that's legendary stuff.
There are other games like Hogwarts and Last of Us that need revisiting due to significant updates as well. Curious if those have added optimizations for the 3D or not.
The MS flight sim community is farily large and goes back well into the last century. The 3D is an easy pick for that crowd. Same for racing sim fans like ACC, iracing, and Rennsport.
I think either make a great gamer, and AM5 makes sense buying new because of the upgradeability. It doesn't change a drop in upgrade on a 7yr+ old board performing the way it does. It's already a legend for that fact alone.
