Wait, the 5 in the 8950 means Zen5 now? And 9 i guess means the ryzen 5,7,9 moniker, right?
If yes, how do you differentiate between 12C and 16C that both used 9? I guess by the last of the four numbers - does it mean that replacement of 7950x will be say 8951x and replacement of 7900x will be say 8952x?
I wonder what will happen to 2026 products. That should use 10
Will they be called Ryzen 7 10840HS or Ryzen 9 10845HX for example?
Or they will use Ryzen 7 X840HS or Ryzen 9 X845HX?
Don't think so.Something like that.
Phoenix is for example
Ryzen 7 7840H
Ryzen 7 7840HS
Ryzen 7 7840U
That 9 should mean for what market It is intended or something like that.
edit: Here It is
2026: Ryzen 7 A840HSThey can go hexadecimal
Why not 8900X?Thanks, based on this, it seems 7900x replacement might be 8850x and 7950x replacement 8950x.
Thanks, based on this, it seems 7900x replacement might be 8850x and 7950x replacement 8950x. Or alternatively 8950x and 8955x, but i presume the first option is more likely.
Then call desktop parts 9000 seriesThe new scheme does not apply to desktop parts.
You are likely correct. However, that is because AMD is still selling Cezanne chips dirt cheap.Mendocino is still not released in any mini pc form, you can't be so sure. Mini PC manufacturers only adopt the mass market chips.
Yet.The new scheme does not apply to desktop parts.
That is totally bonkers, if you think that the average consumer will understand the difference between RDNA 3.5 and RDNA 3. Stuff like Ryzen 5 8550 vs Ryzen 7 8740? I can only assume that they'll make it easier by not having Zen 3 or 4 as 7 parts. I'm not sure how common it is today, but I know of several people who bought inferior graphics cards because they had more memory than a better one with a lower amount of memory.not really.
8x20 may or may not exist. but if it does it will be Zen 2.
8x30 will be Zen 3
8x40 will be Zen 4
8x50 will be Zen 5
RDNA2 vs RDNA3 vs RDNA 3.5 iGPUs will be 600 or 700 or 800 on the GPU spec so that is also pretty clear.
The biggest issue with be something like an 8740 vs an 8550 in the same product range but really it just means the former has an nT advantage and the latter a sT advantage unless AMD totally bork the Ryzen 3,5,7,9 branding, which is always possible. The other option is that there won't be an 8740 and 8550 within the same product range as they target different segments so that cross shop may not even be especially valid.
Of course. And how many bought mobile i7 with 10 cores... Only 2 P cores lol. What's that for an i7 huh ?That is totally bonkers, if you think that the average consumer will understand the difference between RDNA 3.5 and RDNA 3. Stuff like Ryzen 5 8550 vs Ryzen 7 8740? AMD has too many architectures for 15% market share, but not too many for 85% market share.AMD needs to simplify their laptop cpu portfolio. There are too many architectures in parallel getting sold now. Its now from Zen 2(Mendocino) to Zen 3/Zen3+/Zen 4. By the time Strix Point releases next year, they are adding Zen 5 to this list !!! If you go to any retailer they mostly hold laptops with lower end cpus. This is not optimal way to grow marketshare.

Yes.It is unclear if they will rebrand Mendochino
P sure it's dead 2025 onwards.or Cezanne at this point.
Well, AMD just had no modern DDR4 chip, unlike Intel.was because OEMs wanted Cezanne and not Phoenix or Rembrandt
Charlie from semi said amd is paper launching zen 5 in early december, 6-8th perhapsI have heard good things about Zen 5. Will AMD push up the timeline for the Zen 5 release by a few months?
No, 6th is Hawk Point (Phoenix rebrand basically).Charlie from semi said amd is paper launching zen 5 in early december, 6-8th perhaps
Oops, you right it's phoenix and mi300.No, 6th is Hawk Point (Phoenix rebrand basically).
And MI300, which is the more relevant part right now.
Mucho mucho kisses if trueCharlie from semi said amd is paper launching zen 5 in early december, 6-8th perhaps
Definitely, especially after reading the transcript of the last earnings call. It's AI everything! And MI300, which is the more relevant part right now.
225 IIRCAny guesses for Strix Point die size?
According to rumours it will be on N4P node (so no density gains), have 12 Zen5 cores, 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs, and a beefier AI engine.
Will the die size exceed 200 mm²?
I am curious how much silicon will go into a Meteor Lake...225 IIRC
Very likely Zen5 DT would be released in April, and Strixpoint at Computex.I have heard good things about Zen 5. Will AMD push up the timeline for the Zen 5 release by a few months?
A wee bit (like a few weeks) later.and Strixpoint at Computex.
Yea it's a bit bigger than RMB.Will the die size exceed 200 mm²?
It's only AI everything if you can compete with nVidia which no one but AMD really can. It's AI everything!
